The Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to provide technical support and data handling for the research being conducted at SRUC’s Dairy Research & Innovation Centre in Dumfries. The successful candidate will have relevant technical experience in cattle husbandry, operation of specialist farm recording equipment and farm data handling. Experience of recording and sample collection for scientific research would be beneficial.
Key areas of work of this Technician post will include:
- Liaising with research staff, external project partners and farm staff to co-ordinate research activity
- Collecting project data, data entry and database uploads, ensuring all data meets QA standards
- Control and maintenance of research facilities and equipment, including for sampling, sample preparation, processing and analyses e.g., intake feed bins, calf feeder units, cattle shedder, Greenfeed systems
- Use recording technologies (e.g. animal-mounted and fixed-platform sensors, performance monitoring equipment)
- Collection, handling and processing of trial samples, arranging for analysis or transport to relevant partners or laboratories
- Maintaining accurate records for ongoing research trials
- Maintaining consumable stocks related to sample collection or liaising with equipment companies for maintenance and repair
- Assisting with support for students involved in practical training
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should be educated to SCQF Level 7 or above.
