Overview of the Role: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Dr. Becky Carlyle's lab as part of a collaborative project led by Professor Paul Harrison (Oxford Psychiatry). The project involves partnerships with Professor Carol Robinson (Oxford Chemistry), Dr. Thomas Hyde (Lieber Institute for Brain Development), and Professor Gary Stephens (Reading Pharmacology). The ideal candidate will have experience with membrane protein enrichment and preparation for mass-spectrometry analysis. A key focus will be developing assays to detect and quantify calcium channel conformations and interactomes, contributing to research on psychiatric disease mechanisms within a vibrant, international team. This is a 3-year position, available immediately.

Key Responsibilities:
Optimize cellular and molecular approaches for membrane protein enrichment
Develop and implement mass-spectrometry assays for protein analysis
Manage academic research and related administrative tasks

Overview of the role:
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Prof Molly Stevens’s lab at the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience Discovery. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with strong expertise in organic chemistry who is also a confident self-starter, a collaborative team player, and demonstrate a proven track record of first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals.

In this role, you will develop a diagnostic platform applying the in-house developed technique SPARTA™ to the analysis of extracellular vesicles as potential disease biomarkers. The post will involve a range of nanobiomaterial characterisation techniques and the application of multivariate data analysis methods for sample classification.

This post is available from January 2025 for a fixed-term of 12 months, with the possibility of part-time appointments being considered.

Key responsibilities:
• Develop Single Particle Automated Raman Trapping Analysis (SPARTA™) as a non-invasive disease diagnostic technique based on EVs as biomarkers.
• Develop a deep understanding of EV biochemistry, Raman fingerprints and surface protein expression.
• Evaluate the performance of the technique with model systems and patient samples.
• Undertake the associated data analysis and interpretation, ensuring validity and reliability of data at all times, including either developing or liaising with others to use chemometrics, ML/AI algorithms and/or multivariate analysis.
• Manage your own research activities, including administrative tasks associated with the project.
• Actively participate in the multidisciplinary environment of the Stevens Group and collaborate with external research groups.

Selection criteria:
• Hold, or be near to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in materials science, chemistry, physics, nanotechnology, or related field.
• Experience in single nanoparticle analysis techniques (e.g. SPARTA, nanoflow cytometry, imaging flow cytometry, super resolution microscopy, NTA)

We are seeking to recruit a highly experienced and organised Research Grants Manager to join our busy Research Grants team at the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS), located at the Botnar Research Centre, Oxford.

This exciting position combines line management responsibilities for a small team alongside directly managing a portfolio of research groups. The postholder will be required to act as a financial guide, providing professional and flexible financial management to research groups, to support the achievement of the department’s strategic objectives. The post provides a crucial role in the running of the Botnar Institute, liaising between Botnar academics, University Professional Services teams and external grant funders.

You will work closely with colleagues within the Institute, departmental colleagues and Research Accounts throughout the lifecycle of grants; ensuring all eligible costs have been added to each grant and confirming total spend to allow accurate reporting to the funder. You will provide timely, regular and accurate reports and detailed analysis on the research funding portfolio, and associated risks, to the Principal Investigators and senior management, so that they have a sound financial evidence base to assess how best to utilise their grant budgets. You will liaise with external sponsors, collaborating Universities and other University of Oxford Departments on grant award management.

You will be educated to a degree level or equivalent qualification. You will have a sound and in-depth knowledge of grant funders and post-award management together with ability to create, analyse and understand financial data. You will be a highly organised and accurate with ability to work well as a member of close-knit team and independently. We are seeking to appoint a highly qualified and dedicated Postdoctoral Research Associate in Translational Biology to join our research team at Oxford Translational Myeloma Centre which is based at Botnar Research Centre, Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS), Oxford
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Translational Biology you will lead laboratory experiments and the computational analysis and interpretation of data with the goal of discovering biological pathways, patterns and genes that are responsible for the drivers of drug response or resistance in multiple myeloma. You will specifically interrogate multiple Myeloma cell lines and immune cells for studying the mechanism of action of epigenetic therapy in Multiple Myeloma. In partnership with industrial and academic collaborators you will analyse patient derived genomic, immune, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data to build hypothesis and test them in laboratory models. You will contribute ideas for new research projects, collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group.

You will hold a PhD/DPhil (or near completion) in a biomedical discipline with direct relevance to molecular techniques and assays together with experience to undertake cell based analysis of drug activities. Ability to develop novel assays for testing compounds and their mechanisms based on genetics, OMICs and other assays is essential for success in this project. We are looking for a candidate who would be able to deliver high quality research outputs, as demonstrated by a strong publication record in high profile scientific journals. Familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field of Myeloma or cancer biology together with passion for problem-solving desirable but not essential. Experience in drug related research, strong publication track record and experience of presenting work at meetings and cross-disciplinary collaborative experience are desirable.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our fantastic group of scientists here at the Division of Structural Biology, Nuffield Department of Medicine. You will be working in Professor Jones at the Division of Structural Biology, working closely to gain insight into molecular mechanism for cell surface signalling assemblies. Research projects are typically highly interdisciplinary, aiming to integrate in vitro biophysical measurements, high resolution x-ray crystallographic analyses, electron cryo microscopy (cryoEM), and cell-based studies (functional assays, advanced light microscopy and cryoET).

As the Postdoctoral Research Scientist, you will be responsible for managing your own academic research activities. This involves small scale project management to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work and meet deadlines. You will be tasked with testing hypotheses and analysing scientific data from a variety of sources, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate. We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant with computational skills and the biological understanding of cancer-causing pathogens to work on computational analysis at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, University of Oxford

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Scientist in Immunopeptidomics to join our research programme based at the Oxford Centre for Immuno-Oncology in the Nuffield Department of Medicine.

The research programme is dedicated to unravelling the molecular architecture of immune responses in tumour tissues. In this role, your primary objective will involve profiling the immunopeptidomes of individual patients using LC-MS/MS techniques and to map the tumour-antigen landscape across large patient cohorts.

The key responsibilities of this role include managing the LC-MS facility to ensure operational instrumentation and support for specialized Immunopeptidomics applications. You will, lead the generation of proteomic and Immunopeptidomics datasets from cells and primary mammalian tissue samples using LC-MS/MS platforms, providing high-quality data to academic partners and industrial sponsors, Additionally, you will manage your own academic research and administrative activities co-ordinating multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.

The project, funded by the Michael J Fox Foundation and in collaboration with Lario Therapeutics, represents an exciting opportunity to undertake translation work at the interface between academic research and pharmaceutical target and drug discovery in an exceptional setting. This work will develop new inhibitors of calcium channels as a neuroprotective strategy to protect vulnerable dopamine neurons in Parkinson’s working with induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived dopamine neurons generated from Parkinson’s patients.

Duties include growth and differentiation of iPSC lines; leading on design and implementation of experiments and cellular assays in neurobiology (eg: calcium imaging, multi-electrode array (MEA), biochemistry, immunocytochemistry, cell and molecular biology; interpretation of data; preparation of data for publication; contribute ideas for new research projects and develop ideas for generating research income; manage own academic research involving small-scale project management; supervise a Research Assistant on the project; and act as a source of information to other members of the group.

You will have excellent knowledge relating to neurodegenerative disease and practical experience in neuronal cell culture and in techniques relevant to molecular and cellular neuroscience. The ability to innovate, trouble-shoot technical problems, be meticulous in practical work and in record keeping is also essential. Full-time, Fixed-term until 30th April 2027

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to work on a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary project to develop transgenic rodent models of Parkinson’s disease. The work will support projects seeking to use rodent models of disease to understand the earliest stage of neurodegeneration at a point in which neuronal dysfunction precedes neuronal loss, offering an early therapeutic window for therapy. The post will be based in the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, and is supported by the Wellcome Trust and an international consortium funded by an Aligning Science Across Parkinson’s (ASAP) grant.

Duties include colony management, breeding and maintenance of lines of transgenic rodents; collection of brain tissue for gene expression analysis; general laboratory management, preparation of data for publication; contributions to wider project planning and determine the most appropriate methodologies to test hypotheses. You will have a good working knowledge of molecular and cellular biology, excellent practical experience of working with animal models and an interest in pre-clinical in vivo models of neurological disease. Previous experience of the management and maintenance of transgenic rodent lines would be an advantage. We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Research Assistant in Vaccine Development to support the fantastic work of the Bioprocess and Analytical Development group here at the Jenner Institute, Nuffield Department of Medicine.

This role provides an opportunity to work with a team of scientists developing vaccines (adenovirus vectored, recombinant protein, VLP-based, etc) and advancing knowledge on a range of infections, including rabies, COVID-19 and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).

As Research Assistant, you will develop your skills in experimental design, planning and analysis, while making a meaningful contribution to global health through developing new vaccines. You will be responsible for producing high quality data using a range of modern laboratory techniques, such as cell culture (mammalian and microbial), chromatographic protein purification, ELISA, digital PCR, DNA cloning, flow cytometry and viral culture. You will also be responsible for developing, following, and adapting experimental protocols for a range of experimental techniques, such as DNA cloning, mammalian and microbial cell culture, qPCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, viral culture, chromatographic protein purification and filtration processes (TFF, depth filtration, etc).

To be successful in this role, you will hold a BSc degree in medical science or a related discipline along with practical experience of biology, medical science or similar laboratory work. You will have knowledge of vaccinology, infectious disease, and/or molecular biology and the ability to work within established research programmes, with the potential to contribute ideas for new and improved experiments. We are hiring a Senior Research Software Engineer based at the Department of Computer Science, under the supervision of Professor Andrew Markham. This is a cross-disciplinary project between the Departments of Computer Science and Biology and the successful post-holder will be working on the NERC funded Morphocam project. This project seeks to develop and release machine learning/AI tools to enable precise, metrics measurements to be made on camera trap images of wild animals.

As a Senior Research Sofware Engineer (Machine Learning), you will research, adapt and exploit existing deep learning models and frameworks to build an efficient and user-friendly processing pipeline. You will need extensive experience in machine learning frameworks (e.g. pytorch/tensorflow) and ML-ops for scaling systems into production. You will need to be able to communicate well and work easily with domain users (e.g. field biologists) to understand their needs and problems. You will be independent and self-driven, with a clear approach to project management and delivery. You will also have a strong publication record with a strong ambition towards to top-tier publications and dataset releases.

You will hold a relevant Ph.D/D.Phil and possess experience in software engineering development. Research experience in computer vision and deep learning or similar is required.

About the role
Oxford University Museum of Natural History is seeking a Museum Research Fellow to undertake independent collections-focused research in palaeobiology, in an area that is aligned with the research interests of the Museum and the palaeobiology community in Oxford (https://palaeobiology.web.ox.ac.uk).

The Museum Research Fellow will undertake original research, enhance the collections through field collection and/or documentation and digitisation, disseminate the research findings through conference presentations and publication, contribute to the public engagement work of the Museum, and undertake some University teaching.

The post will be supported by a research allowance of £7,500 per annum, and it is hoped that a non-stipendiary association with a college will supplement this research fellowship.

The Research Fellow will be assigned a mentor to support and enhance career development during their fellowship.

This is a full time position working 37.5 hours per week. The post is fixed term for three years.
