GENERAL SUMMARY:

Registration data entry, test order entry, processing of specimens received in various Labs. May have equipment maintenance and quality control duties. May handle hazardous chemicals. May perform some data entry, answering phones, inventory, and filing. Duties may include responsibilities specific to assigned department and may vary dependent on assigned site/department

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Performs patient registration per corporate guidelines and training and accurately orders tests requested by clients into laboratory computer systems.
• Communicates with healthcare personnel outside of department about reports, clarification of requests, other problems related to specimens, requests, and testing delays. May coordinate Phlebotomist activity at various times throughout the shift.

• Performs specimen processing according to the Lab Test Directory instructions. May set up some cultures, perform waive testing, and report test results.
• Performs specimen receipt and tracking in Beaker and distributes to the technical areas. Checks incomplete worklists to make sure no specimens are uncollected or lost. Retrieves incomplete work logs.

• Processes documents and materials (reports, slides and blocks) for internal and external customers. Retrieves/distributes material (slides, blocks and reports) from the slides/blocks storage and/or LIS. May prepare tumor board conference material.

• Prepares Send-out tests, including Newborn Screening to the Michigan Department of Community Health and to other department/laboratories within the health system. Centrifuges, aliquots specimens, processes paperwork, and documents in the Beaker.

• Performs document imaging in On Base as assigned and archive, retrieve samples for additional testing.

• Performs clerical functions to maintain required records, files, and reports pertinent to the functions of a lab. Chart review, statistical logs, filing slides, etc.

• Maintains office equipment including copiers, faxes, and printers. Process offsite document/material storage/retrieval requests.

• May maintain pathologists’ schedules and uses Microsoft Office for preparing documents.

• Performs inventory, orders and receives supplies, rotates stock.

• Any other duties as needed.

CASUAL POSTION

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Special Procedure Tech provides direct care pre, intra, and post for patients undergoing Heart and/or Vascular procedures to assist physicians and delivers quality patient/family centered care. The incumbent may be required to perform IV starts, prep patients, monitor hemodynamics, operate equipment, document procedures, vascular access site management, and provide patient/family education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:   

Monitor patients undergoing routine invasive, interventional procedures. Provide intra-procedural technical support and quality patient/family centered care. May be required to perform and record hemodynamic/physiologic wave forms and calculations. Communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, patients, families, and all ancillary departments while consistently demonstrating the Corewell Health Standards. Perform quality assurance checks on technical equipment. Perform department skills validations. Maintain radiation safety standards for staff and patients in compliance with the Corewell Health Radiation Safety Department. Required to take On Call per department schedule. IR Special Procedure Techs must be able to 1st assist physicians using sterile technique, and fully participate in 3D imaging, vascular, and cerebral cases if performed at the site. Cath Lab Special Procedure Techs, if performed at the site, must be able to utilize IVUS, FFR, OCT, ICE, EKOS. EP Lab Special Procedure Techs, if performed at the site, must be able to utilize ICE, participate in device Implants, and circulate in all other EP cases.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience:

• Clinical experience required through graduation of one of the above listed programs.
• 1 year of experience in EP, Cath Lab or IR is required.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

• IR requires BLS certification and active RT status upon hire, RT-CV or VI within 2 years of hire.
• Cath Lab requires BLS upon hire and ACLS within time frame identified by each individual site with a maximum of 6 months.   Registered RCES/RCIS/RT certification, and IABP certification.
• EP Lab requires BLS upon hire and ACLS within time frame identified by each individual site with a maximum of 6 months. Registered RCIS/RCES.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of management and physician leadership, performs and oversees functions related to the clinical activities including, but not limited to: maintains patient flow by assisting and promoting the delivery of primary and preventative health care, performs technical procedures, lab protocols and clinically oriented activities under physician/provider direction. The Medical Assistant III will assist management in achieving office efficiencies in accordance with stated policies/procedures to ensure efficient operations with a focus on supporting physicians, clinic staff and management which embodies the "Service First" philosophy to promote customer satisfaction.

• Acts as an assistant to the physician/provider by providing primary healthcare and patient care management.

1. Processing specimens: As appropriate for each lab, this may include hand staining, gram staining (micro set ups), inoculating specimens, aliquot reagents and solutions, setting up cultures, cytopreparation, accessioning, receiving, processing, pouring over, distributing, storing, disposing of specimens.

2. Anatomic Pathology: Assisting in specialized specimen collection processes and bedside testing, such as fine needle aspirations. General interpretation overview of clinical cases as well as correct determination of appropriate auto text messages.

PART TIME-NIGHTS

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs Electrocardiograms in a variety of settings, which could include outpatient, the Emergency Department, and all in-house locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:                 

• Performs EKG services according to established procedure of the hospital.
• Maintains equipment.
• Will maintain sufficient inventory to efficiently operate the EKG services.
• Will assist with the training of new employees, student interns, and employees of other departments.
• Will promote the department by utilizing good customer service practices.
• Performs clerical duties such as computer entry, filing, recording, and mailing and reports as needed.
• Completes all test orders in EPIC to ensure appropriate charges are processed.
• Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization’s overall mission.
• Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
• Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. When handling blood and/or body fluids, universal precaution procedures will be followed to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Safety policies and procedures will be followed when using chemicals.
• Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Training: 

• High School Graduate or Equivalent.
• Completion of EKG training, either an exclusive EKG training program or as part of other educational programs. Prior work experience that included performing EKGs may be considered as fulfillment of this requirement.

Work Experience: 

• Six months of experience as an EKG technician, preferred.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

• American Heart Association Basic Life Support required.

Other Qualifications:

9 North Medical is a fast-paced 35 bed unit.  Nurses on this unit care for patients with a variety of medical diagnoses, which leads to many excellent learning opportunities. The care environment on 9 North allows nurses to develop exceptional clinical assessment, critical thinking, and skills while working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary care team to meet the needs of complex medical patients. 9 North has an active Professional Nurse Council, and the staff nurses can participate in unit decisions with a Shared Governance Model.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of phlebotomy management, performs diverse support functions including phlebotomy to ensure accurate test results and a quick turnaround time. Positions supporting Patient Service Centers and client offices are required to provide phlebotomy services to these locations as determined by department needs and may be assigned to different locations and/or different schedules without a 30-day notice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Performs venipuncture and capillary punctures to obtain adequate samples from patients. Responsible for proper patient identification, correct specimen labeling and necessary documentation. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to evaluate and select proper collection methods for age specific patients.

2. Supports laboratory activities related to laboratory testing (phlebotomy, specimen collection, computer order entry and specimen processing) to ensure accurate result reporting and quick turn-around time.

3. Performs processing functions to support laboratory services as related to testing including verification, accessioning, aliquoting, processing and batching send out testing, adding/cancelling tests, distributing, storing and disposing of specimens.

4. Adheres to Compliance policies as related to job duties to include presenting Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) of non-coverage prior to delivery of outpatient services.

5. Performs observational competency of all support staff under the guidance of the phlebotomy leadership using established criteria.

6. Maintains department equipment and inventory to ensure proper supplies are available.

7. Works well without direct supervision.

8. Participates in:

· Patient and Family-Center Care Culture

· Q.I./process improvements, data collection, QC documentation, and/or CAP surveys as applicable to the assigned department.

· Staff activities of a High Reliability Organization (HRO)

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This is a Full Time Midnight position in the BRL Processing Lab at the Royal Oak Campus.

Registration data entry, test order entry, processing of specimens received in various Labs. May have equipment maintenance and quality control duties. May handle hazardous chemicals. May perform some data entry, answering phones, inventory, and filing. Duties may include responsibilities specific to assigned department and may vary dependent on assigned site/department

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Performs patient registration per corporate guidelines and training and accurately orders tests requested by clients into laboratory computer systems.
• Communicates with healthcare personnel outside of department about reports, clarification of requests, other problems related to specimens, requests, and testing delays. May coordinate Phlebotomist activity at various times throughout the shift.

• Performs specimen processing according to the Lab Test Directory instructions. May set up some cultures, perform waive testing, and report test results.
• Performs specimen receipt and tracking in Beaker and distributes to the technical areas. Checks incomplete worklists to make sure no specimens are uncollected or lost. Retrieves incomplete work logs.

• Processes documents and materials (reports, slides and blocks) for internal and external customers. Retrieves/distributes material (slides, blocks and reports) from the slides/blocks storage and/or LIS. May prepare tumor board conference material.

• Prepares Send-out tests, including Newborn Screening to the Michigan Department of Community Health and to other department/laboratories within the health system. Centrifuges, aliquots specimens, processes paperwork, and documents in the Beaker.

• Performs document imaging in On Base as assigned and archive, retrieve samples for additional testing.

• Performs clerical functions to maintain required records, files, and reports pertinent to the functions of a lab. Chart review, statistical logs, filing slides, etc.

• Maintains office equipment including copiers, faxes, and printers. Process offsite document/material storage/retrieval requests.

• May maintain pathologists’ schedules and uses Microsoft Office for preparing documents.

• Performs inventory, orders and receives supplies, rotates stock.

• Any other duties as needed.

5 Northwest is a 33-bed surgical unit specializing in care of the adult patient. We provide compassionate, high quality patient and family centered care for a wide variety of surgical patients. 5 Northwest regularly cares for patients undergoing cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, peripheral vascular surgery, general surgery, and trauma work up as well as patients with Congestive Heart Failure. Under supervision of a Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures, performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients. Performs routine bedside nursing activities including bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property. Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches and sitz baths or pericare.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs accurate and efficient diagnostic exams in all areas of general radiology. Technologists must demonstrate good clinical skills and provide the best possible images for interpretation. Applies principles of radiation protection and complies with regulations. Assumes responsibility for designated area and provides clinical instruction as appropriate. Always follows Corewell Health philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Performs quality diagnostic exams after verification of patient identification and physician order.

Acquire an accurate patient history and document in the medical record. Monitors patients during procedures to ensure patient safety. Perform radiographic and related patient care procedures using age appropriate methods for patient’s physical ability and/or limitations. Ensures STAT requests are relayed to radiologist in a timely manner Effectively communicates on an inter/intra-department level with customer service, administrative, medical staff, and peers. Demonstrates ability to proficiently operate diagnostic imaging equipment and follow policy for any malfunctions or quality control failures. Utilize ALARA standards for minimizing radiation exposure to patient, staff and self. Provides procedural information/education to the patient/family prior to each exam. Contributes to the effective operations of the department by assisting fellow employees and staying in compliance with quality assurance and quality control. Ability to use hospital computer systems accurately and efficiently for verifying orders, viewing schedules and sending information to PACS. Assists in the training of students/new hires. Ensures equipment is wiped down between patients and exam room is clean and properly stocked with linen and supplies. Maintains competency in all assigned areas including, but not limited to fluoroscopic, general diagnostic, orthopedic and operating procedures.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Training:

• Graduate of Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Accredited Radiography program.
• Must be registered within 6 months of hire date. 

Work Experience:

• Training gained at student level.

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

• Certification by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; Must remain in good standing with the ARRT. 

Other Qualifications: 

• Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers from The American Heart Association and/or The American Red Cross at hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Effort:

• Position requires ability to frequently push/pull up to 30 lb. objects with assistance of others; occasionally requires ability to lift objects more than 50 lbs. with assistance; and frequently lift up to 40 lbs.
• Position requires employee to constantly perform simple motor skills such as standing, walking and simple manipulative skills such as writing. Position requires employee to frequently perform moderately difficult manipulative skills such as positioning patients.
• Position requires employee to constantly perform gross body coordination. Frequently perform tasks which require hand-eye coordination such as collecting of specimens for transport to lab and tasks which require arm-hand steadiness.
• Position requires employee to constantly walk and stand; occasionally sit for prolonged periods; frequently bending such as when caring for a patient in bed.
• Position requires employee to constantly see objects far away as in driving and see close objects such as computer screens.
• Position requires employee to constantly be able to hear normal sounds with some background noise as in answering phone/intercom. Be able to distinguish sound as in equipment alarms.

Work Environment:

• Employee may be: frequently exposed to ionizing radiation. Potentially exposed to hazardous material such as blood, body tissues, or fluids, dust, toxins, cytotoxins, chemical hazardous materials, bodily injuries, loud and or unpleasant noises: seldom exposed to, high humidity, electrical hazards, or poisonous substances; fluctuations in temperature, grease, and oil.
