When Peterborough City Council employees completed their recent pulse survey the areas of pride & purpose and people & culture scored high. This included feelings around teamworking, values, trust in managers, equity & inclusion and it being a good place to work.
For a Workforce Development professional, having the chance to work with such an engaged organisation, is much like knocking on an open door — helping people that feel valued and receptive to the growth opportunities that your advice brings.
When engagement, values and corporate strategy meet, you see initiatives born like the 2 days a year given - full pay - for volunteering in the local community, as a PCC employee.
You do not even need to have prior experience working for a local council, so long as your skills are transferable, and you are able to achieve success in the role.
Does this sound like your next career step? If so, read on to see if you could be a fit.
Your workforce development knowledge and experience, built in an organisation with hard-to-fill roles, means you will enjoy the responsibility for ensuring all workforce development policies and procedures reflect future and existing employment legislation, uphold council values, minimise risk to the council and contribute fully to the council’s goals.
You also bring experience in workforce planning, so are comfortable leading regular comparable benchmarking and research and enjoy being able to share best practice approaches to guide strategy, decision-making and ensure PCC continues to be a competitive employer.
You are driven by insight, so love to lead the design of automated systems and to implement metrics that measure the success of your initiatives (and where needed, those of third-party contractors) — then use this data to find and explain strengths, areas for improvement, resourcing requirements, and opportunities.
You have working-knowledge of the impact of People employment actions and experience of positive action & inclusion practices, with an understanding of how to build strategies that help attract, recruit, reward and retain people from underrepresented groups.
You are also a natural coach — with strong leadership skills that help you shape and guide a high-performing team; setting realistic goals and ensuring they stay engaged and happy.
This is a hybrid role so during a normal week you will sit in our modern purpose-built city centre home at least twice a week (which has cathedral, river, and green space views), giving you the opportunity to maximise face-to-face time with your team and the managers you support, whilst keeping work-life balance.
There is also the flexibility for you to complete your work hours around school runs, or other responsibilities and you will be able to discuss this with your line manager.
As part of the growing, forward-thinking team at PCC, you will help drive a positive impact on the lives of over 215,000 people in what is now the second-fastest growing City in the United Kingdom.
If you have been nodding your head in agreement whilst reading, then hit apply to easily share your details with us and we promise to get back to you once the role has closed. If successful at shortlisting, you will be invited to meet the hiring manager Debbie (either in person or a Teams call), followed by a second and final stage at our Sand Martin House HQ, where you will have the chance to show-off your presentation skills.
We are proud to serve the diverse communities of Cambridgeshire/Peterborough and want our workforce to reflect this diversity, which we believe is beneficial for our employees, the organisation and the communities we serve.
