General Summary:
Reporting directly to the Nutrition Services Supervisor, responsible for all aspects of patient and retail meal service. Setup and stocking of workstation. Food preparation, assembly and service of patient and retail meals. Attention to special requirements for modified and restricted diets for patient meals. Delivery of patient trays and supplies to patient care areas. Retrieval of trays and return to kitchen. Cleaning and sanitation of work area, equipment, dishes and utensils, pots and pans. Use of commercial kitchen equipment. Knowledge and application of safe food handling practices. Maintain safety and sanitation standards of the work area. Communicate effectively. Provide excellent patient and family centered care and service.

Education / Training:
- Ability to read, write, speak, and communicate effectively in English required.
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
Work Experience:
- Food service experience preferred
Other Qualifications:
- Ability to function in a physically demanding fast paced environment with exposure to temperature extremes
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper lifting techniques and safety precautions
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn proper use and storage of potentially hazardous cleaning products.
- Strong customer service focus
- Must be able to prioritize and multi-task and stay focused in a busy environment
Essential Functions:
- Sets up and stocks workstation for patient or retail meal service.
- Prepares and assembles menu items as assigned.
- Ensures high quality food products by monitoring ingredients and finished product to meet established quality standards prior to service for patients or retail customers.
- Assembles patient trays accurately with appropriate portioning and presentation of menu items. Ensures compliance to modified and restricted diets for patients.
- Assembles products and serves retail customers with appropriate portioning and presentation of menu items.
- Performs cash functions in retail areas according to required procedures.
- Transports food carts within department, and patient care areas or other locations as assigned. Assembles and delivers floor stock.
- Passes trays to patients using two patient identifiers and following established scripting and sanitation procedures.
- Retrieves soiled patient trays from patients following established scripting and sanitation procedures. Returns soiled trays to the kitchen.
- Performs dish room responsibilities. Breaks down soiled patient trays. Washes, sanitizes, and properly stores dishes and utensils, pots and pans. Operates dish machine.
- Identifies and communicates opportunities for waste reduction, service improvements, and revenue enhancement.
- Maintains, cleans, and sanitizes equipment and work area according to established standards for safety and sanitation. Collects and disposes of trash in work area.
- Applies principles of safe food handling during storage, assembly, production, and service. Records food and equipment temperatures as required. Properly labels and dates products. Monitors expiration dates and disposes of outdated product.
- Communicates effectively within department and with all hospital departments, patients, and staff.
- All other duties as assigned.
