This is a full time, permanent role offering £48,710 per year + Car Allowance and Hybrid working / supported relocation.

The purpose of the role is to enforce the Building Regulations and allied legislation in the capacity as a Registered Building inspector under the Building Safety Act 2022.
Manage development proposals through the Building Control process from the pre-application stage through to completion on site of applications deposited to the Local
Authority or as required as part of a multi-disciplinary team for the Building Safety Regulator. Act as technical adviser and decision maker on Building Control and other related issues, whilst acting as lead officer on major Building Regulation applications.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain a detailed knowledge of the building regulations, structural engineering, fire engineering, or other specialism relevant to the team to which the post-holder is allocated, ensuring consistency and accuracy of professional interpretation, and act as professional expert.
• Interpret Central Government guidance & Building Control policy, including the preparation & organisation of the council's case to justify its decision(s) including at appeals & determinations submitted to Central Government & at court proceedings.
• Ensure that Building Control revenues are maximised by maintaining our market share, through efficient invoicing and the determination of applications within prescribed time periods.
• As part of the service planning process for the Building Control Team, explore, devise & present technical justification to management team, for specific project proposals.
• Work in an ethical way, where compliance with regulations is the primary task and winning new work secondary, not bidding for new work on the basis of interpretation

The Role
As a Senior Quality Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll be part of a Project Quality team that sits within the Programme Delivery Team, to support the delivery of one of our most important contracts on time, to the right quality and to the planned cost.

Day-to-day, you'll provide advice, guidance and support to the business on all matters related to quality, ensuring outputs meet customer and regulatory requirements in a timely manner.

• Represent the customer's interests and help to maintain the open and collaborative relationship we have.
• Provide quality input and advice through the project lifecycle.
• Identify quality risk and work to mitigate, manage and escalate issues to programme leadership.
• Manage non-conformance process, driving root cause analysis and prevention where appropriate.
• Oversee progress and sign-off the delivery process to give the customer assurance their requirements have been met.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the onsite and 3 days working from home. However, you will be required to be onsite more days if needed.

Essential Experience of the Senior Quality Engineer

• A proficient quality assurance engineer with experience in a related industry and be familiar with how quality applies throughout a product or service delivery lifecycle.
• Previous experience of a customer-facing role.
• Experience of implementing quality improvements and encouraging culture change within a team or organisation.
• Experience of auditing quality ISO9001 management systems.
• An excellent working knowledge of quality tools and problem-solving techniques, and be able to provide guidance to others in their use (e.g. Pareto, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), 5 why's, 8D, etc.)

Qualifications for the Senior Quality Engineer

• Membership of a recognised quality institute e.g. CQI would be desirable.
• ISO 9001 auditor preferable but training can be provided.
• ONC, HNC or NVQ Level 3 qualification in a quality, science, engineering discipline.

Day-to-day, you'll provide advice, guidance and support to the business on all matters related to quality, ensuring outputs meet customer and regulatory requirements in a timely manner.

• Represent the customer's interests and help to maintain the open and collaborative relationship we have. Speak regularly with the customer quality representative.
• Provide quality input and advice through the product lifecycle.
• Identify quality risk and work to mitigate, manage and escalate to programme leadership.
• Oversee progress and sign-off on completion of the delivery process to give the customer assurance their requirements have been met.
• Quality planning in production and supply chain to drive a Right-First-Time culture.
• Lead investigations into quality escapes, managing through to preventative action using suitable tools and techniques.

• A proficient quality assurance engineer with considerable practical, hands-on experience in a related industry and be familiar with how quality applies throughout a product or service delivery lifecycle.
• Previous customer-facing roles or experience is beneficial.
• Experience of implementing quality improvements and encouraging culture change within an organisation.
• Experience of auditing quality ISO9001 management systems.
• An excellent working knowledge of quality tools and problem-solving techniques, and be able to provide guidance to others in their use (e.g. Pareto, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) , 5 why's, 8D, etc. Advanced Product Quality Planning - APQP).
• Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and able to give examples of how you have used them in previous situations.

Qualifications for the Senior Quality Engineer

• Ordinary National Certificate (ONC) , Higher National Certificates (HNC) or National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 qualification in a quality, science, engineering discipline
• Membership of a recognised quality institute
• ISO 9001 2015 internal auditor
• Extensive experience working in quality within a manufacturing environment
• Aerospace or defence experience would be a bonus but not essential
