Senior Nurse:Quality and Safety:We seek a dynamic and experienced Senior Nurse, at a managerial level, to join our team at UCLH's Westmoreland Street Theatres. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective and safe delivery of services across theatres and other areas of the Division. This is an exciting opportunity for a forward-thinking nurse leader to provide clinical and professional leadership, promote excellence in patient care, and drive continuous improvement. Leadership and Management:The Senior Nurse will provide visionary leadership to nursing staff at all levels within the Division, ensuring high standards of nursing care and effective resource management. This role involves implementing the nursing and midwifery strategy, which focuses on modernising nursing roles according to patient and service needs, while maintaining a high standard of patient experience with a strong emphasis on dignity and compassion. Strategic Development:The post holder will collaborate with senior staff, including the Senior Matron who oversees nursing operations, the Operations Manager who handles logistical aspects, and the Divisional Clinical Director who sets the clinical direction. This collaboration is crucial to help shape the department's strategic direction and policy framework. The role also involves contributing to corporate objectives and maintaining effective governance. Active participation in the patient safety committee and support for Trust-wide initiatives are also key aspects. Quality Improvement:A continuous focus on improving service provision through current best practices is essential. The Senior Nurse will lead the Westmoreland Street theatres' reducing surgical harm steering group and develop safer surgery management portfolios. Supporting the implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), our comprehensive system for identifying, reporting, and responding to patient safety incidents, is also critical to this role. Project Management:The role requires establishing a transparent project management approach to safer surgery, maintaining robust project and communication plans, and managing multidisciplinary project groups to implement appropriate measures. Culture and Engagement:The Senior Nurse will share organisational learning to build awareness and capability across the healthcare sector. This includes publishing a quarterly newsletter to share divisional learning and improvements that enhance the team's culture of engagement. Patient Safety and Risk:Key responsibilities include supporting patient safety incident reviews related to safer surgery, managing corporate risk, and administering the surgical harm steering group. Qualifications and Experience:Candidates must be registered Nurses with valid NMC registration and significant experience in a senior nursing role, preferably within a theatre setting. Demonstrated leadership and management skills, experience in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, and strong project management skills focused on delivering high-quality, evidence-based care are essential.
