Overview
To perform NDE and inspection functions on raw material, parts, and assemblies to ensure that material is within prescribed specifications in all shop locations.
Responsibilities
Reads and interprets manual or electronic work orders, assembly and detail drawings, quality plans, special instructions, inspection, process, material and welding specifications, standard procedure instructions, bill of material, purchase orders, shipping papers, and other miscellaneous procedures and documents as required or directed. Uses shop mathematics.
Obtains/ uses necessary tooling, gaging, fixtures or other inspection tools/equipment and makes set-ups, for inspecting raw materials, parts, and assemblies for conformance to drawings, specifications or other documented requirements. Performs first piece inspection, layout inspection, 100% inspection, final piece inspection, sub-assembly (including piping, pipe assemblies, stub-outs, burning operations, tack weld, finish weld, etc.) inspection, finished assembly inspection, NDE inspection, PMI inspection, or patrols operations following established inspection procedures or sampling plans, as directed. Checks and records alignment and clearances of sub-assemblies and assemblies as directed.
Maintains records as prescribed in procedures including collecting and recording specific data for analytical purposes either in manual or electronic format as directed.
Identifies, describes and generates sketches (showing location of indications) and for non-conformances (NCR's), process/product improvement activities, and upon Elliott supervision/engineering request. Generates detailed inspection quality reports as required. Notifies the responsible department when nonconformance is identified. Documents and identifies to supervisor any irregularities in procedures or problems not covered in the standard procedure, specifications and instructions.
Works with customer representatives while witnessing inspection and tests and reviewing documentation. Conducts source inspections at vendors/ suppliers as directed by Management.
Disassembles, assembles, stamps, grinds and cleans items as required for testing.
Checks and makes minor adjustments, linear and non-linear measurement and test equipment.
Operates crane, fork lift truck and other material handling equipment as required.
Performs Level II certified PT, MT and UT nondestructive examinations and PMI testing on all material and assemblies as required. Generates detailed reports as required.
Maintains good housekeeping by keeping tools, materials, and equipment clean, protected and in proper place. Keeps respective work area clean. Observes all plant and safety rules.
Qualifications:
2 years' relevant experience.
Knowledge of Quality Inspection & Non-Destructive Testing.
Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
Must be able and willing to work all shifts.
Must be able and willing to work to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Shifts are not guaranteed.
Prior experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred and job specific testing required.
For Inspector individual must hold current Level II PT, Level II MT, Level II VT and Level II UT certification in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A; Individual will be considered a trainee if missing any certifications.
