The successful candidate will be responsible for taking a proactive approach in overseeing Ofsted registration of supported accommodation providers as per The Supported Accommodation Regulation 2023 and quality assuring children’s placement/homes.

The role will monitor, and improving the standards of homes for children by undertaking quality assurance visits and ensuring accommodation providers we use are Ofsted Registered as per the above regulation and monitoring and improving the standards of homes for children and young people.

The post holder will ensure the highest quality of service delivery in terms of the care, support and health & safety within the homes our children reside in that meets Ofsted’s minimum quality standards.

The post holder will contribute in ensuring placement stability for children in our care, as well as ensuring all homes provider’s compliance documents and policies are gathered, reviewed and kept securely.

THE ROLE
Deliver high-quality service in managing property acquisition, renewals, re-lets, and hand-backs for private sector landlords and rough sleepers, while ensuring compliance and maintaining strong landlord relationships.

• Ensure properties meet safety standards and support rough sleeper rehousing placements.
• Conduct scheduled and responsive property visits, ensuring compliance with Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) for properties in and outside the borough.
• Liaise with landlords, housing providers, and contractors to meet Gas Safe and relevant legislative standards.
• Maintain detailed records, update compliance databases, and provide regular feedback on property interactions.
• Identify and report any non-compliance issues, HHSRS hazards, and Safeguarding concerns from stakeholders.
• Oversee property management expenditures and payments related to rough sleeper schemes.
• Prepare quarterly GLA reports and other required statistical data.

THE CANDIDATE
We are seeking a candidate with previous experience in a similar frontline public housing service role, especially in property compliance and procurement.

• Proven experience in marketing and procurement of private sector properties with a track record in lettings.
• Strong knowledge of housing law, security of tenure, and health and safety for temporary accommodations.
• Familiarity with private leasing schemes, including financial and operational considerations.
• Understanding of rough sleepers' needs within temporary accommodations.
• Skilled in partnership working, negotiation, and case management.

THE CONTRACT

• 36 hours, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm
• 12 weeks with potential for extension or a permanent position
• Pay: £18.99 per hour LTD rate; PAYE equivalent is £16.19 per hour, inclusive of holiday.

The role involves conducting inspections, monitoring compliance with regulations, and reporting on street and road works for planned and emergency projects across the Islington network. You will provide technical support, attend site meetings, and ensure safety and legal standards are upheld.

Our client based in North London are currently recruiting for a Principal Class 3 Building Control Surveyor to join their team as soon as possible.

This is a full time, hybrid, temporary position offering £600 per day Umbrella LTD Inside IR35.

The purpose of the role is to Lead the delivery of technical services for the Building Control Authority ensuring that all building work within the Borough meets the requirements of building control legislation and the building regulations, including working with the Building Safety Regulator in the enforcement and regulation of Higher risk buildings.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the delivery of public protection, ensuring the enforcement of the building regulations, demolitions and temporary structures within the Borough.
• Lead the Council's response to dangerous structure incidents in the Borough, managing personnel and assets deployed in response and liaising with the emergency services in making safe dangerous structures and buildings.
• Contribute as a member of the Building Control Management Team to the overall leadership and management of the Building Control Authority, representing Building Control on corporate programmes, projects and initiatives as required.
• Deputise where necessary for the Assistant Director of Building Control.
• Provide technical advice through the preparation of reports and briefings on building safety, building regulations, dangerous structures and land charges regulatory issues.

• Ensure full cost recovery for the Council in support of the Building Safety Regulator as set out in the Building Safety (Fees and Charges) Regulations (2023). Enforce building control prohibitions on 'applicable persons' under the Building Safety (Responsible Actors Scheme and Prohibitions) Regulations 2023.
• Ensure that the Council's building inspectors meet the requirements of the Building Safety Regulator in relation to competency assessment, training and development.
• Enforce the building regulations within the Borough using powers under the Building Safety Act 2022 and Building Act 1984 to ensure public safety. Investigate offences under Section 57 of the Building Act 1984, prosecuting cases as required.

Requirements:

• Qualifications - Membership of MRICS, CABE or similar Experience
• Essential - Class 3 Registration
• Minimum of five years post qualification experience, preferably in a Building Control environment.
• Management experience desirable. Knowledge/Skills
• Able to demonstrate a flexible approach to technical issues whilst still meeting legal requirements.
• Understanding of the commercial environment that the department is working in and the contribution that individuals can make.
• Knowledge of quality management systems is desirable.
• Comfortable with using a range of software packages to produce letters, input data and search for information etc.
• Ability to work to tight schedules and meet deadlines and changing priorities through effective time management.
