Your new company
My client is an excellency focussed, employee-owned SME with a flat hierarchy that drives success. They have two main departments: environmental consultancy and software development [water]. They have a distinctive opportunity for an ambitious and collaborative individual to develop and progress their career as a Principal Water Quality Modeller.
Your new role
This role would be ideal for an experienced candidate that enjoys conducting water quality assessments and is now looking to step their career up a level to lead on water quality modelling in a small and successful employee-owned business.
Working closely with their software development team, you will play a key role in the development of a new water quality modelling tool, expanding their best practice for a new hydrological modelling online software. They believe that it is the exchange and challenging of ideas between colleagues that drives us to continually improve our products, so a collaborative mindset is key.
You will be working with scientists at UKCEH, the EA and prestigious universities in the UK. The project is focused on understanding the link between the sources of chemical pollutants and their pathways, fate, and ecological impacts in freshwater ecosystems. Their tool is used as a best practice tool for the estimation of flows in ungauged catchments by the EA, NRW, SEPA, NIEA, EPA and UK water companies. The estimation of climate change adjusted flows will be implemented this year through an EA, NRW and SEPA joint funded project. This new tool will be based on a water quality modelling extension to the predecessor that has been used extensively by UKCEH over the past 20 years to model the fate of various chemicals such as pharmaceuticals and nanoparticles across the UK, including an assessment of SARS-CoV-2 loads across UK river catchments.
