The Role
As a Senior Buyer, you will have a role that is out of the ordinary. Babcock provides services including fleet time engineering, facilities management, waterfront services, logistics and transport within an agreed operating budget, firmly focused on continuous and sustainable improvement in warship and submarine support.
Day to day, you will provide in depth commercial, supply chain and procurement expertise to increase value outputs. A key target for the individual is to build on existing business unit relationships, as well as forming new connections, to further influence business strategy and change management.
- Conduct strategic sourcing activities including negotiation of terms and conditions
- Support Team Transformation Plan to map and execute team transition from tactical to strategic output
- Identify and deliver substantial value contributions to Dept Value Plan through tactical and strategic procurement and supply chain initiatives with the team
- Own and be accountable for existing and new relationships with management personnel in all relevant business units and external entities
- Lead procurement and supply chain inputs to all BU bidding activities for platforms and projects
- Monitor, measure, manage and report Dept KPI performance to BU working with other Dept procurement teams to develop plans, approaches and improvement plans to exceed KPI targets
This role is a full-time permanent role at 37 hours per week and will be based at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. The hybrid working arrangement is x3 days a week on-site with the remaining x2 days to be completed from home.
Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. Essential experience of the Senior Buyer:
- Good knowledge and experience of managing procurement and supply chain requirements for services
- Tangible experience of value delivery in a procurement and supply chain capacity through tactical and/or strategic activities (Sourcing Strategy / Category Strategy / Business Strategy)
- Demonstrable experience of presenting orally and in writing to stakeholders and working with stakeholders up to management level
Qualifications for the Senior Buyer:
- Relevant Bachelor's Degree or equivalent is desirable
- MCIPS or equivalent professional qualification is desirable
