An excellent position has become available with a manufacturing Company in South Oxford for a purchasing assistant to work with the purchasing team to ensure all direct and indirect materials are available on time and purchased at the most cost-effective price.
You will be responsible for managing the cost-effective procurement of materials, goods and services into the business to support business requirements and ensure your allocated suppliers are performing to agreed KPI.
Your success will ultimately be judged on how well suppliers perform and the contribution to the business bottom line, through pricing and availability of material.
Main Duties:
- Raising purchase orders
- Raising and reviewing purchase requests
- Requesting quotations
- Attending and representing procurement in project meetings
- Liaise with finance department about incoming goods and invoice discrepancies.
- Liaise with sales about new pricing and lead times and piece parts so that's sales can estimate more accurately
- Sending weekly open order reports
- Regular vendor meetings
- Relationship building with suppliers
- Chase orders overdue date and report as required.
- File keeping, traceability of POs and credit card payments.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A qualification in Purchasing (CIPS) (Desirable but not essential.
- If you don't possess a CIPS qualification, would you have a willingness to obtain one that may include out of hours or distance learning?
- 3 years' experience using MRP/ERP/SAP or similar and are you competent in its use for placing and reviewing Purchase Orders and updating parts and supplier or customer data?
- Experienced in supplier or customer management.
- Demonstrate a competency in the use of MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word & Outlook?
- Experience of working in a manufacturing environment ( a marine manufacturing business would be an advantage).
- Possess a good level of Maths and English - Preferably 5 above in GCSE Maths & English or equivalent.
- Demonstrate a professional and entrepreneurial attitude to purchasing.
- Possess excellent communication and assertiveness skills
- Flexible and reliable
- Self-motivated and able to multi-task
- Demonstrate the ability to work under pressure to meet multiple project deadlines.
In this role you need to have great people skills, analytical approach to decisions and be an
effective communicator including being a good listener.
The hours are Monday - Friday 8.00am - 4.30pm, salary range is £30 - £35k depending on
experience with full training given. 23 days holiday, a yearly bonus, Bupa Healthcare and

Due to the location, you must have your own transport.
