Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and creative storyteller with a passion for social media to lead FLC’s social media content strategy across our platforms. The ideal candidate will have a flair for creative storytelling, both written and visual, and have a keen understanding of social media trends. Working closely with other members of the Marketing and Communications team, this position will involve the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive social media strategy and storytelling tailored for both internal and external audiences of the College. They will work closely with students to create content and alongside their Marketing & Communications colleagues to collaboratively enhance the College’s brand recognition and reputation, supporting key departments like Admissions, Alumni, and Advancement, along with other institutional outreach initiatives.
This position is in the Marketing & Communications Department and reports to the Media Relations Strategist.
Job Description:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, journalism, social media, or another related field.
- One to three years of progressive professional experience in communications, professional writing, and social media management.
- Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
- Proficiency in the use of social media management tools, and knowledge of emerging social media trends.
- Management of a team or other equivalent experience.
- Evidence of creative problem-solving.
- Contributor to a positive, supportive, and collaborative team culture and willingness to learn new things.
- Ability to manage maintain positive attitude under tight deadlines and changing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic photography and videography experience, including photo and video editing, and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office Suite, Canva, and Hootsuite or equivalent.
- Experience writing for the web, especially on-page search engine optimization best practices.
- Understanding of common web content ADA compliance issues and how to resolve them.
- Email marketing, writing, and layout experience.
- Familiarity with the Fort Lewis College culture.
Major Responsibilities
- Works with the Media Relations Specialist to develop a social media calendar for the College and implement a campus-wide strategy around the use of social media.
- Manages and mentors Student Marketing Team of social media interns and influencers.
- Develops social media policies and procedures to ensure responsible use of the FLC brand and provide leadership to diffuse social media throughout the FLC culture.
- Creates or supervises the creation of compelling content for all platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
- Engages with audiences
- Continually assesses emerging technologies and new ways of using existing technologies to tell the College’s story and monitors competitor institutions to identify shifting trends and opportunities in social media.
- Monitors social media mentions and branded and non-branded keywords to identify potential emerging issues as well as opportunities to engage with users. Responds as appropriate.
- Monitors and reports metrics regularly.
- Plan, write, edit, and rewrite content for news stories, web pages, advertising and recruitment materials, social media captioning, and other electronic and print publications designed for a variety of FLC audience as needed.
- Work in a creative team, be open to feedback, and identify new learning opportunities.
- Understands and champions the College brand in voice and visual identity.
- Effectively communicates and coordinates with College administration and campus partners with an aim for exceptional customer service.
- Works with external third-party customer support to leverage tools for social monitoring, scheduling, and other related tasks.
Work Conditions
- 12-month exempt staff position
- Full-time 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. office environment, with some flexibility to occasionally work remotely. The position requires some weekend or off hours as needed for events like commencement, athletics, and fundraising
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $42,500 to $47,000, per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
