If you’re experienced in working at a senior level in communications, public relations, journalism, digital content or a related field, and would relish the opportunity to apply your proven to a unique restoration project in an amazing high profile environment, come and be part of our structure for success.
A truly unique building, the Palace of Westminster - a world famous icon of democracy - needs essential restoration and renewal to preserve it for future generations. Covering 34 acres, and the size of more than 1,000 houses, there are 1,100 rooms, 100 staircases, three miles of passageways, four floors and 65 different levels. We’ve already engaged teams of architects, engineers, project managers and contractors who will shape the future direction of the work. We’re now looking for a talented communications professional with a passion for news and digital communications to join our Communications and External Affairs team and be part of the largest building restoration project ever undertaken in the UK.
Reporting to the Communications and External Affairs Director and working closely with the Head of Corporate Communications, you’ll be pivotal in developing and executing our media and digital engagement strategies. We’ll also look to you to drive innovation to ensure the Delivery Authority is utilising the most up-to-date communications techniques and setting the highest professional standards. Taking the lead in shaping the way the Authority engages with external audiences through the media and online will be the key ask. You will also be one of our brand guardians – always seeking to protect, strengthen and support the organisation’s brand and reputation across all digital channels, outputs and activities. Media relations, digital communications, content creation and website management - all are aspects of this challenging role.
A proven ability to create and manage the delivery of high profile social-first digital communications for X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube is key. So too is a track record of creating multimedia content (e.g., video, photography, graphics, animations) with a creative portfolio to evidence work delivered. Fully conversant with Adobe suite workflow (e.g., InDesign, After Effects, Illustrator and Premiere Pro) and other graphic design software (e.g., Canva) you also know how to use video equipment effectively, including framing, lighting, sound recording and editing.
An exciting opportunity to be part of a relatively new team dedicated to raising awareness of our mission to restore and renew one of the most iconic landmarks in the UK, you’ll need to be a highly effective people influencer with the ability to support the development of colleagues, plus strong reputation management skills and media handling expertise. A successful track record of multi-channel communications delivered in highly dynamic and politically sensitive environments is a given. You’ll need evidence of having led engaging and impactful content development and channel placement within a similar environment, plus experience of working effectively with, and influencing, the media and external stakeholders alike.
Experience of working in a construction industry or major projects environment and/or an understanding of the work of the Houses of Parliament would be useful, but is not essential.
