What You Will Do:
We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Technical Writer to provide support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Integrated Public Alert and Warning Division (IPAWS). As the Senior Technical Writer, you will play a critical role in creating, editing, and maintaining documentation across several active projects, striving for high quality, integrated work products to aid in the advancement of the client's transformational goals. The work of the Senior Technical Writer will help build a more equitable and far reaching national alerts and warnings ecosystem.
Responsibilities:
Review, coach, and assist in the development of program-level strategic plans, reports white papers, presentations, marketing materials, and other content for internal, client, and public audiences.
Ensure the documentation’s quality by editing, revising, rewriting, and analyzing the existing technical content to make it more user-friendly.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including FEMA personnel, partners, and contractors) to serve as a trusted subject matter expert on the appropriate format, layout, and presentation of technical and non-technical material.
Evaluate and analyze user feedback to understand the customer and integrate the feedback to improve documentation quality.
Transform complex documentation into simple concepts that are easy to understand by varied audiences.
Manage multiple conflicting priorities while supporting the various process owners.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements, ensure alignment, and manage expectations throughout the document lifecycle.
Conduct regular communication and progress meetings with senior project management, providing updates on status and risks.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders to identify data required and inform of missing data needed to complete documents.
Establish and enforce project quality standards, ensuring deliverables meet defined requirements and expectations.
Check for accuracy and consistency in all documentation.
What You Will Need:
US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust
Bachelor's degree
7 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in a government, telecommunications or disaster management context.
Be proactive and highly organized, with strong attention to detail and follow through with the ability to handle multiple, complex tasks, and establish priorities.
Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and deadline-driven environment.
Capacity to work independently without significant guidance and be able to exercise good judgment, taking the initiative when necessary.
Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).
Experience in government consulting.
