About the Opportunity
The Admissions Communications Team is a hybrid marketing and communications team which blends traditional and digital marketing efforts with a strategic focus on communications and emphasis on operations. The team is made up of experts in skill areas such as: admissions, data and operations, marketing, communications, analytics, and strategy. We are an agile and flexible team that aims to enable better storytelling by stronger reporting and strategic analysis of our marketing and communications efforts.
Our email program is innovative, complex, and comprehensive. It is the main channel with which we communicate to our audiences and, as such, this role is crucial in both the day-to-day work, as well as planning our long-term email strategy.
Reporting into the Sr. Associate Director of Undergraduate Communications Operations, this role is tasked with:
- Supporting the email operations for the Undergraduate Admissions Communications team in Slate
- Supporting Campaign Managers on their email campaigns in Slate, including supporting new multi-channel initiatives and retiring old ones
- Managing complex email data and queries, such as building audience lists that drive automation and transform content into a personalized campaign. Audience segmentation management is critical.
- Reporting and analyzing email data
- Oversight of email template functionality in alignment with strategic and operational goals.
- Managing day-to-day responsibilities such as ensuring campaigns are prepared in advance and firing post-launch, data and processes are reviewed, and colleagues are supported in their Slate-based efforts.
- Monitoring audience lead source volume to ensure lead sources are operating correctly, and reporting on performance and impact for tactics.
- Training the team and campus colleagues on the email system; supporting and maintaining training resources.
- Implementing and maintaining scalable naming conventions and organizational systems for high-volume work.
Working closely with the Sr. Associate Director of Undergraduate Communications Operations, this position is a tactical role, responsible for executing against the complex email operations strategy while developing and maintaining operational components for campaign managers. The Sr. Assistant Director of Communications Operations will own pieces of the email operations process and will contribute to evolving the strategy.
This role is also responsible for documentation, template support, data checks and management, as well as maintenance of email systems in the division, collaborating closely with colleagues across Enrollment Management.

The ideal candidate has technical experience in enrollment marketing, specifically working with email operations.
We are open to candidates who come from a strong higher education background in enrollment marketing or admissions positions, ideally with experience working within Slate and/or for email communications operations. In this case, we would prefer candidates to have 4 to 6 years of experience for those looking to switch to this technical email marketing role.
We are also open to candidates from outside of higher education with strong email marketing operations experience.
For those candidates, we are looking for them to have a bachelor’s degree in a technical, interpersonal, or analytical field along with exposure to email marketing and communications strategies. For those with a non-higher education background, 3 to 5 years ofexperience—particularly in email marketing or marketing technology—is required.
All candidates must possess strong analytical skills and technical aptitude which is provable via references or portfolios. Candidates must have strong organizational and time management skills. Team members must be self-starters with a demonstrated ability tohandle projects from start to finish and be committed to developing leadership skills to support the unit’s interests and goals asassigned. The ability to manage stakeholder expectations is critical. Attention to detail is a must. Candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Technical experience working within marketing and communications technology, such as a marketing automation tool (MAP) or Email Service Provider (ESP) and customer relationship management system (CRM), is strongly preferred. Experience with certain QC email tools such as Litmus or EoA is preferred. Experience working directly with Slate is ideal.
