This is a perfect opportunity for a Trust Doctor to join our team at Peterborough City Hospital on a full-time one-year post with opportunity of extension and gain the experience you need. You will be supported by 10 full time consultant General Surgeons who will facilitate significant exposure to clinical work.
Located in the western part of Cambridgeshire, the historic town of Peterborough has been transformed by town development schemes bringing improvements in housing, education, and employment opportunities. The hospital is accessible by road or train within easy commute distance from London, Cambridge, Leicester or Birmingham.
As an enthusiastic and ambitious doctor with at least 1 years’ experience, you will support the General Surgery team. The operative procedures provide a comprehensive General Surgical Service covering all the main sub specialties including Laparoscopic Surgery but, with the exception of Cardiothoracic and Neurosurgery. There is also full cover of the minor surgical specialties. The department facilities also include a vascular laboratory and anorectal physiology studies.

The job will include clinical sessions which will be supervised, theatres as well as daily ward rounds and day to day management of inpatients.
Your main duties will be to maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of General Surgical conditions and to provide inpatient care of patients with General Surgical problems under the supervision of the Registrars and Consultants.
You will participate in an active research programme that will lead to the successful completion of at least one audit project. You will benefit from weekly teaching sessions.

To maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of General Surgical conditions
• To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance
• To provide inpatient care of patients with General Surgical problems under the supervision of the registrars and consultants
• To provide teaching to medical students and non-medical staff
• Undertaking audit of his/her work and contributing to national audits
• Participating in continuing professional development and in the Trust’s appraisal and assessment processes
• Management of General Surgery emergency admissions when on-call under the supervision of the registrars and consultant on call as appropriate.
