Gastroenterology and Endocrinology Housekeeper

Do you want a role that is an integral part of the patient’s journey through the hospital? Do you enjoy being busy and in a role with pace? If yes, then this could be the role for you as an exciting opportunity has come up to join our inpatient ward team as a Ward Housekeeper.

Working on the Gastroenterology and Endocrine ward, the successful candidate will work closely with the ward team (nurses, medical staff and allied health professionals) to ensure the patients on our ward receive the highest standard of care on the inpatient unit. The Housekeeper role is patient facing, you will be leading the meal service by helping patient’s complete menus, delivering meals and hot drinks, clearing away meals and helping deliver snacks. You will be responsible for topping up supplies, ordering equipment, cleaning and maintaining clinical equipment, ensuring the ward area is clean, welcoming and tidy along with reporting faults and general admin tasks.

This role requires someone who has an interest in nutrition, can work pro-actively, and has excellent communication and organisational skills. The successful candidate must be able to work well under pressure due to the role having competing demands at times. The post holder will need to be computer confident and be willing to undertake training to be self-reliant in using multiple NHS applications. They must be willing to work with the dieticians to ensure that patients meal choices and nutritional intake is appropriate for their requirements.

We are looking for somebody who can work between 34.5hrs to 37.5 hrs per week. Shifts are 11.5 hrs per day and will be covered on a rotational basis, covering 7.00am – 19:30 pm and to include some weekend working.

About The Role

You will carry out a range of cleaning & waste management activities including:

To sort, pack and deliver Cook-Freeze meals, fresh and ambient goods and all associated catering items to Wards on a daily/weekly/as need basis. To ensure compliance with Trust Policy and Legislation. 2. To deliver/collect Function Catering items to various areas of the Unit as required ensuring compliance with Trust Policy and Legislation. 3. Collection and delivery between wards and departments of post, stores, laundry, pharmacy items, medical gases, pathological specimens and furniture and equipment. 4. Post duties including the collection, sorting and delivery of all postal items. Other Duties 1. General messenger duties 2. Report maintenance faults to the Help Desk/Supervisor. 3. Report all sightings of pests to the Help Desk/Supervisor. 4. Ensure all information appertaining to Patients and staff is kept confidential. 5. Any other duties as may reasonably be requested. Health & Safety 1. Making and management of appointments using the practices clinical computer system. Taking histories and adding information to our on-line triage systems. Dealing with patients and the general public's enquiries, taking accurate messages and channelling them to the appropriate person. Exercise tact and understanding when dealing with patients and the public. Deal with difficult patients/situations in a professional manner. To be aware of the in house complaints procedure. Fulfilling clerical and office procedures with particular reference to reception work and computer duties. Preparing documents for clinical sessions such as surgeries and visits. Locating patients records and filing where necessary. Registering new patients, updating computer details as and when necessary, printout of patient summaries. Processing the repeat prescriptions using the practices clinical computer system. Daily scanning of incoming post using the Docman system to workflow to Clinicians or other staff and also to attach to patients EPR (Electronic Patient Record). Tasks and workflow actioned daily as requested. Collect all monies on behalf of the Practice in respect of private medicals/overseas visitors etc, record and store in a safe and secure area. Provide clerical support to other areas of the practice as and when required. Liaise with colleagues regarding the days workload and hand over clear and concise information to colleagues on change of shift/end of day. To be a key holder and lock and unlock the surgery, activating or deactivating alarms as appropriate. Ensuring the building is left secure.
