The Department of Vector Biology at LSTM is one of the largest of its kind with a broad portfolio of research and technical assistance activities targeted at improving the control of insect borne diseases. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Research Technician to join this dynamic research team.

The successful candidate will provide molecular biology, and insectary support to research projects performing functional genetics in mosquitoes, particularly towards the study of insecticide resistance. Your role will involve supporting researchers in the group by using molecular biology, CRISPR genome editing and general genetic manipulation techniques to characterise and manipulate the mosquito genome.


Key responsibilities (but not limited to):



Prepare and maintain adequate laboratory records of methods, sample details and results
Provide an efficient and effective technical service to research teams
Undertake general plasmid cloning and screening procedures
Perform basic bioinformatic analysis and plasmid and primer design
Inject mosquito embryos with DNA constructs

We are working with a well-established Maintenance Contractor with a great reputation who operate nationally, working across the Social Housing, Commercial and Public sectors.

The company are working on an established and longstanding contract within the Education sector and are seeking a site based Maintenance Supervisor to join them on a permanent basis to join their team in Manchester.

The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for small works within the Education setting, with typical jobs valued between £5-10k. The refurbishments will consist of externals and internals and will involve brickwork, groundwork, upgrades to gutters, painting, door replacements and general repairs.

The duties of Maintenance Supervisor will include:

• Requisition of materials
• Managing subcontractors
• Issuing sub-contractor short term programmes
• Holding regular progress meetings
• Updating the construction programme
• Managing trades/labour on site
• Checking the quality of all plant on site
• Managing H&S on site
• Attending monthly cost meetings

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a stable and progressive career background, and have experience working as a Maintenance Manager/Supervisor, ideally within the Public Sector.

Ideally, you will come from a trade background.

The salary on offer is up to £36k + package, depending on your experience.

Facilities Team Leader

Location: Manchester

Salary:£28,193 - £33,880 + bonus + benefits (depending on experience)

Hours:37.5 hours per week. FacilitiesTeam Leaders work 5 days out of 7, between the hours of 8am and 8pm. Weekends will be required on a rota basis.

Your new role
For an experienced Civil (Infrastructure) Engineering Technician, you will be joining the Civils team at their Manchester office, where you will help deliver the technical design of some of the most exciting building projects in the world, across a variety of sectors including Education, Commercial, Residential, Retail and Industrial. As part of your new established team of expert engineers and technicians, working closely with colleagues of various disciplines and across a number of offices, you will deliver and oversee the preparation of detailed designs and detailing including highway (Private and Adopted), drainage, SuDS, levels and earthworks, external works, and associated civil engineering infrastructure. You will also develop 3D drawings and implement 3D coordination into our current design practices and guide more junior member of the team.
What you'll need to succeed
Having already been accredited with a relevant HNC/HND (or equivalent educational base for an Engineering Technician with 3 years' experience minimum) and gained practical experience of AutoCAD based design and drafting in a similar civil engineering design office based role, you are adept at planning and organising your workload and communicating effectively with engineering and AutoCAD specialists. You will have an accomplished level of IT skills including mandatory sound knowledge of AutoCAD, Civils 3D. In addition, experience of using civil engineering design software such as InfoDrainage, Revit & AutoTrack will be beneficial. You will also have proven experience of working to deadlines, and crucially - share Cundall's passion for creative, sustainable and intuitive design.
