The HSDU at The Royal Oldham Hospital are looking for a self-motivated and reliable individual to train as a Decontamination Technician.

You will be joining a busy team to undertake decontamination science duties in providing a specialised decontamination of medical devices service contributing to the clinical care of the patient.

Full training will be given in line with the departments ISO 13485 Accreditation, to allow you to assist in the safe and efficient delivery of decontamination services. You will receive continuous development and the opportunity to enhance your career within the decontamination field.

The post holder will be required to:- To liaise and work with other trades/disciplines including external agencies (contractors), calling them out when required. Participate fully in the Labour Management Scheme completing timesheets and job dockets and providing all relevant information. Supervise Contractors and sign service sheets as and when required. Must be able to manage own workload. Maintenance Responsibilities Install and maintain energy conservation devices as instructed. Diagnose and repair faults on complex electrical or mechanical services, engineering plant and equipment, dealing with issues as they arise and pass on knowledge to others. Monitor temperatures using handheld data collection device, diagnose faults, recalibrate, and carry out repairs to steam gauges, boiler controls and washers, sterilisers and washer disinfectors. Manufacture, assemble, erect, and install new specialist electrical or mechanical controls as required. Diagnose and repair faults on electronic or mechanical equipment using fine tools when required e.g., soldering iron, fine screwdriver. Work on electrical distribution systems including emergency standby, UPS and generation. Carry out installation, repairs and planned preventative maintenance on the control systems for laundry machinery, steam raising plant, heating systems, motors, pumps, heat recovery, ventilation systems, sterilisers, washer disinfectors, and fire alarms. Carry out statutory inspections and testing on engineering plant and equipment, and complete necessary documentation. Undertake non-complex tasks including fault finding of other trades. Install heavy engineering plant using lifting equipment in compliance with Trust policies. Use own initiative, knowledge and experience when quantifying, and installing specialist electrical services, engineering plant and equipment in accordance with current guidance and legislation. Use specialist software to programme/reprogramme for the control of laundry and similar equipment. Participate in the departments Equipment Release and Permit to Work Systems. Drive Trust vehicles as and when required. The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday. The shifts are 06:00-14:00 hours, 08:00-16:00 and 10:00-18:00 hours. From time to time you will be expected to work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management. The post holder may be expected to partake in the emergency on-call team to ensure emergency repairs are completed outside of normal working hours including repairs within the Hospital. Price and raise requisitions for materials and equipment in accordance with standing financial instructions. Must be able to achieve acceptable standards of workmanship and productivity.
