The job role
An excellent opportunity has come up at our Imerys Aluminates site at West Thurrock, which produces fused and sintered calcium illuminate binders - valued for their high heat resistance to corrosion, abrasion and heat. The 5-hectare site serves the European building chemistry, wastewater infrastructure, refractories, metallurgy and the mining industry with benchmark products.
You will be responsible for managing, maintaining and improving electrical and automation equipment and systems for Imerys Aluminates industrial/ production site.
The main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Site Electrical Duty Holder
• Managing and execute electrical, automation and instrumentation work (including inspection, auditing, calibration, spare parts, drawings, risk assessments and reactive & preventive maintenance)
• Operation, managing and maintaining Siemens automation systems (PLCs/ PCS7/ SCADA/ WinCC/ S7-300/ HMIs) including fault finding, programming and updating.
• Manage ECI compliance and statutory activities (Fixed wire testing, HV maintenance, Earthing test, PAT, Arc flash testing, etc.)
• Work on and manage high voltage (HV) network and drives.
• Managing ECI projects (including designs, specifications, documentation, contract management, installation, commissioning, spare parts and training)
• Adhere to Health & Safety standards and ensure all ECI tasks are performed in compliance with regulations and company procedures.
• Participate in training, development and appointment of other industrial engineers.
• Respond to after hour consultation and provide technical support during equipment failures
This role will involve working at height and in confined spaces.

You will:
You’ll have a strong understanding of industrial electrical, control and instrumentation systems, such as valves, sensors, probes, and control circuits, with proven experience of fault finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
You’ll also need to:
• Have a Degree in Electrical /Electronic/Control/ Automation Engineering or related engineering discipline
• Previous experience of working in a similar role within a heavy production / manufacturing/ process environment
• Have experience of programming, editing and fault finding on Siemens systems (PCS7), SCADA systems (WinCC) and communication network e.g. Profibus and Profinet
• Strong understanding and experience of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and process systems
• Be able to use Auto CAD and Trimble
• Hold a Health and Safety NEBOSH or IOSH Certification
• Willingness to respond to afterhours breakdowns
• Legally able to drive in the UK
