The role
As a Nuclear Repair Mechanical Fitter, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. We currently have this opportunity to undertake mechanical fitting activities, repairs and inspections on systems and equipment on all RN and other entitled Vessels and, when required, in other sections including the Estate.
Day-to-day, you'll be responsible Completion of all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and nuclear implicated work to ensure the department meets the objectives of the business.
- Identification and rectification of all system, manufacture, defects and alterations to ensure the continued availability and performance of HMNB Clyde Submarines, Surface Vessels and the Estate.
- Ensure that work is carried out in line with current processes and make suggestions on improving systems and processes to increase productivity in accordance with set objectives and timescales.
- Work within all H&S legislation, Safe Systems Of Work and control of work processes within BM&T Clyde policies.
This position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week with a half day on Fridays, based on site at HMNB Clyde, Faslane near Helensburgh.
Essential experience of the Nuclear Repair Mechanical Fitter
- Working experience in a mechanical background
- Comfortable with working with machines and hand tools
- Proven pipefitting working experience
- Knowledge of HM Submarine, Ship Operating procedures and Nuclear reactors would be desirable but not essential
Qualifications for the Nuclear Repair Mechanical Fitter
- Recognised Mechanical Apprenticeship, qualified to SVQ Level 3 or equivalent (NVQ3, City & Guilds, HNC etc) is essential

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role.
