The Major Infrastructure Project Business Unit has been formed to oversee a portfolio of work which includes the development and implementation of a Strategic Plan to meet the infrastructure requirements for the next 30 years.
Within the business unit, you will join The User Acceptance Group (UAG), we are a team that set requirements from the user perspective for new infrastructure projects that specialise in Submarine and/or facility maintenance work.
The role
As a Senior Submarine Repair Specialist, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will play a crucial part in the creation and delivery of our multimillion-pound infrastructure projects, representing the future teams who will ultimately use the new facilities.
Day to day, you'll set the user requirements by supporting the optioneering and development of design solutions to ensure they will enable efficient delivery of submarine projects. Using your developed experience, you will contribute towards the whole infrastructure project lifecycle, from the initial or pre-concept phase right through design and ultimately the build, commissioning, and handover phases.
Projects you'll directly be involved in are:
- 10 Dock - The biggest dry dock at Devonport and Babcock Marine
- 5 Basin East Wall major facility upgrade
- ASTUTE Class fleet time dockings upgrade project
- PWR1 defuel campaign.
- Other projects focussed on site wide facilities such as CCTV, SCADA and Demin water distribution through to supporting initiatives such as the Integrated Logistics Hub
This role is 35 hours a week, hybrid position with the expectation to be on site in Devonport every Monday.
Essential experience of the Senior Submarine Repair Specialist:
- Extensive experience in nuclear submarine operations and maintenance and/or nuclear facilities maintenance.
Qualifications for the Senior Submarine Repair Specialist:
It is desirable for you to hold a Degree in a relevant engineering discipline with a route to chartered engineer status. However, we can consider one of the following: Indentured Apprenticeship/Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship/Level 3 Engineering qualification with proven industry experience.
Lower qualifications will be considered if adequate job experience and subject matter knowledge can be satisfactorily demonstrated.
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
