The role

As a Senior EC&I Designer you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. The Senior Designer provides support and technical guidance for a team of designers. The role will assure the quality of output to the required standards consistent with whole lifecycle from concept to in service support.

Day-to-day, you'll provide specialist technical advice and guidance to other designers, providing design governance for technical standards for a team. You'll work with a high degree of technical autonomy and promote effective co-operation across Design and other functional teams.

• Allocate discipline tasks to allocated team of Designers, check team drawing outputs, and ensure inter discipline coordination in accordance with company and regulatory standards
• Assist in effective management of the customer, including liaison and relationship development with existing and new customers, to aid the development of business, resolution of technical and delivery issues, and such that the customer is fully briefed and informed of progress
• Contribute to the preparation/production of drawings in support of basic, detail and production design in line with recognised ISO standards and to the required; time, cost and quality requirements.
• Assist in the resolution of Production & Technical Queries & development of discipline solutions for the team in relation to manufacturing & installation issues
• Develop innovative design solutions, and fulfil Design Lead responsibilities as assigned for multi discipline low risk projects
• Maintain awareness of developments within the industry, particularly for techniques & tools, physical integration, bill of material controls & management of design maturity

This role is full time OR part time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements

Essential experience of the Senior EC&I Designer

• Experience in a detailed design environment
• Good knowledge of CAD tools
• Knowledge of General Engineering Drawing Practice

Qualifications for the Senior EC&I Designer

• HNC/HND minimum in a relevant discipline OR equivalent academic qualification

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the science technician team and ensure it is resourced, organised and developed, in consultation with the Head of Science, to meet the performance standards required by the department.

Oversee the maintenance of laboratories, preparation rooms and chemical stores (including security and accident/hazard spotting) to ensure all Health and Safety Regulations are met. Report where necessary problems to Site Manager and Head of Science.

Ensure safe storage, safe treatment, safe disposal of equipment and materials, monitor the condition of labels on chemical products and electrical apparatus including hazardous substances, taking account of safety procedures, CLEAPSS and COSHH regulations to ensure safety of the pupils and staff.

Carry out risk assessments for technician activities.

Provide practical support and guidance for school staff in the use of materials, laboratory techniques, practices and processes, recommend solutions to technical problems encountered. Prepare resources and assemble apparatus.

Take a lead role in the design, development, and maintenance of specialist resources and offer professional guidance, assistance and support to pupils and teachers on the practical aspects of the curriculum.

Set up monitoring systems used in the management and control of practical resources including stock control and financial records.

Take the lead role within the science department on both routine and non-routine checking, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing and repairing of equipment to the required standards.

Promote the observance of a safe and healthy working environment and provide advice on health and safety issues to technical staff, teachers and students.

Advise on the development of systems and procedures so that the work of the Science Faculty may be carried out to best effect.

Your new role
Your new role will see you joining the structures team as a Senior Structural Revit/BIM Technician, based in the heart of Chester city centre. Working alongside the existing Structures North team contributing to heritage, off-site construction, industrial, education, healthcare as well as overseas defence and government projects.


Key tasks and responsibilities include:

• Provide solutions and advice, analyse data or information, and diagnose and solve technical issues within an area of expertise demonstrating initiative and judgement.
• Produce accurate 3D models, drawings and schedules, coordinating drawing production in line with project requirements and in conjunction with other disciplines.
• Prepare drafting and associated calculations.
• Check drawings and models prepared by more junior staff.
• Manage out-sourced BIM/Revit detailing packages.
• Review project files for compliance with standards/procedures.
• Be a recognised expert in the technical standards of a specific area of responsibility, highlighting and prioritising issues as appropriate.
• Implement best practice procedures.
• Supervise staff, delegate and allocate work, monitor progress and performance of more junior staff as appropriate.

What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed you will need to possess a BTEC Higher National Certificate, Degree, or equivalent in an appropriate subject and be a proficient user of Revit and AutoCAD software packages. Furthermore, in-depth technical knowledge and skills related to the design of a variety of building structures.
Ideally you will be a member of, or working towards, accredited membership of a professional institution.
