GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Assists physicians and extenders in providing proper medical and clerical support for the various orthopedic practice locations.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• After appropriate training and documented competency, performs various related procedures including but not limited to wound care, dressings, EKGs, removal of sutures/staples, application/removal of orthopedic casts/splints, and drawing up injections, vaccines, botox, phlebotomy for PRP and assisting with ultrasound procedures.
• Assists in the coordination of patient care under the supervision of the assigned health care provider.
• Prepares and rooms patients within the clinical practice setting according to documenting patient health information, history and medications. Accurately interviews patients and orders radiographs according to physician protocols.
• Following standard work flows, accurately documents all pertinent details in the electronic health record. Reviews and updates the allergy and medication list, social, medical and surgical history and pain screening. With appropriate training and documented competency, may function as a scribe to the provider when needed to maintain clinic work flow.
• Able to function as a scribe to the physician when needed to maintain clinic work flow.
• Perform pre-visit chart management tasks by obtaining diagnostic reports and reviewing charts for completion. Scans pertinent findings from outside information to physicians and staff as necessary.
• According to provider instruction and standards, educates patients on proper wound and pin care, cast care and postoperative care.

Prepares exam room for patient visit.  Ensures adequate inventory of medical supplies.  Ensures all patient treatment areas are at all times stocked with the appropriate supplies using established inventory standards. Ortho techs who are Medical Assistants with current Medical Assistant Certification may administer medication with documented training and competency in accordance with policy and scope of practice.  Ortho Techs who are Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC) cannot administer medications in the clinical setting. 
• Requires travel to various satellite locations to support assigned physician(s).
• Performs other duties as assigned when needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

• High School Diploma/GED
• Proof of graduation from an AHN approved Medical Assistant School within five years of application OR proof of one year of work experience as a clinical MA in the last three years.  Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC) will also be considered for this position.  Medical Assistant Certification (newly hired medical assistants must complete certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire. Medical Assistants must obtain certification within 120 days of hire. Once achieved, Medical Assistants must maintain national certification requirements).  Medical Assistant Certification will not be available if the individual is an ATC.
• American Heart Association BLS certification is required.

Preferred

• 3-5 years’ experience as an Ortho Technician,  Medical Assistant, or Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC)

Job Responsibilities:

• Coordinates work orders with Home Managers and other staff supervisors to determine when planned maintenance will least interfere with operation of residential or center activities.
• Builds, repairs, and installs counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, walls, building framework, and trim.
• Paints interior and exterior walls and trim. Installs glass in windows, doors, and partitions.
• Installs items such as window shades, Venetian blinds, curtain rods, wall & ceiling fans and lights and door locks. Replaces damaged ceiling tile, floor tile, and wall coverings.
• Assures compliance to building code.
• Develops and coordinates with Administrator and Manager - Materials and Assets, plans for reconstruction, capital improvement or installation of new equipment, or buildings.
• Seeks bids for construction/renovation projects as appropriate.
• Suggests cost savings equipment when replacement is necessary.
• Estimates cost of parts, and supplies to be used during scheduled maintenance.
• Reviews manufacturer’s service manuals and records of maintenance problems to determine optimum frequency of preventive maintenance.
• All other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• One to three years related experience and/or training preferred.
• Valid drivers license including personal vehicle insurance coverage. 
• Must maintain proficiency in company sponsored training and certifications.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job, under the direction of the provider and as a member of the health care team, assists in coordinating the examination, treatment and health planning for patients. Serves as the primary clinical support for patients referred by treating ENT physicians for allergy testing and ongoing immunotherapy support.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conducts initial patient interview after referral by physician, orienting and educating the patient regarding tests to be performed and treatments to be provided. (20%)
• Schedules and conducts testing ordered by physician including Intradermal Dilutional Testing (IDT) and IgE blood testing. (15%)
• Schedules ongoing immunotherapy as required. (15%)
• Mixes antigen vials for current allergy patients and administers scheduled injections. (10%)
• Documents relevant patient information in Electronic Health Record. (10%)
• Keeps allergy test sets current and monitor expiration dates. (10%)
• Orders allergen supplies. (10%)
• All other duties as assigned (10%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

• High School Diploma / GED

• 3 years with Allergy Testing OR Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

• Basic Life Support

• Good communication skills with both patients and coworkers
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at once
• Organizational skills
• Detail oriented

Preferred

• 1 year in Medical Assisting
