Our current vacancy is for a Modern Apprentice within the Estates team, part of the Estates and Facilities Department. This opportunity is open only to applicants aged 16 – 24 years or 16-29 years for disabled applicants.
Working alongside the Estates teams, the successful candidate will be supported in learning how to maintain a range of buildings services, plant and equipment. The role of a Porter includes manual handling duties, and can vary from patient movement throughout the hospitals via chairs, trolleys and beds. Delivery of goods which include mail-room duties, meal trolleys, pharmacy, stores, furniture moves and collection of waste throughout facilities and any ad hoc service as required. All of this whilst working towards gaining a recognised qualification which will enable you to develop towards future careers.
You will be employed on a 2 year training contract and will be required to work through a structured training programme towards achieving the SVQ Healthcare Support (Non Clinical) qualification at SCQF Level 6.
You will need to be enthusiastic with good manual dexterity and hand-eye co-ordination, good communication skills and a strong team work ethic.You must also demonstrate in your application that you possess good written communication skills, are highly motivated, and are hardworking with good attention to detail. You will need strong inter-personal and organisational skills and demonstrate self-motivation and self-reliance. You will be keen to help out, flexible in your approach and committed to completing the training programme.
Applicants must have achieved or, at the time of interview, be working towards,
3 National 4 qualifications (or SCQF equivalent) which must include Maths and a literary subject (English, History, Modern Studies).
