Main Duties/ Responsibilities Production and Dispensing All work is to be carried out in accordance with current GMP guidelines. Participate in the rota for routine radiopharmaceutical production (typically from 7:00am onwards) within Radiopharmacy and provide support when other technologists are on duty. Dispense radiopharmaceutical and non-radiopharmaceutical products to be administered to patients for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Participate in the preparation of non-routine radiopharmaceuticals and pharmaceuticals for use within Radiopharmacy when requested by, and in a manner authorised by, the Radiopharmacy Production Manager. Prepare (e.g., spray and wipe) all containers and packaging prior to transfer into the radiopharmacy and, when necessary, for transfer within the radiopharmacy. Prepare radiopharmaceutical production work sheets and dispensing work sheets from patient day lists adapting these to meet urgent clinical requests as required. Complete all proformas, documents, worksheets and labels as required by the standard operating procedures. General cleaning and maintenance of Cleanroom facility and Clean Air devices according to SOPs. Quality Control Prepare samples of radiopharmaceuticals for sterility checks and carry out environmental monitoring as specified in the procedures. Organise, at the required intervals, routine assessments (including broth tests) for all staff working in Radiopharmacy. Monitor the process, product, equipment performance and physical environment in Radiopharmacy and inform the Production/QA Manager or Lead Radiopharmacy Technologist of any non-conformity in a timely manner. Carry out necessary quality assurance procedures, maintenance checks and cleaning at the required intervals. Radiation Protection Comply with all radiation related statutory regulations, local rules, systems of work and Trust policies. Undertake all radiation related work in a manner that ensures an as low as reasonably practical exposure to yourself or any other person. Wear all personal radiation dosimetry equipment and make it immediately available for assessment as required. Participate in radioactive contamination monitoring within Radiopharmacy in accordance with standard operating procedures and local rules, recording results of all such measurements. Carry out radioactive decontamination procedures of spillages below defined activity limits, informing the Chief Technologist and a departmental Radiation Protection Supervisor or senior staff members without delay. Undertake and accurately record the receipt, storage and transfer of radiopharmaceuticals and non-active materials into the Radiopharmacy. Participate in packaging, documenting, and recording of radioactive material consigned to a location off the main hospital site. Dispose of all radioactive waste materials in accordance with the departments waste management procedures. Teaching, Training, Research and Development Assist with any Radiopharmacy related development, research projects or clinical trials as directed by the Radiopharmacy Production Manager. Administrative Maintain the Radiopharmacy stock control system, including updating the Radiopharmacy spreadsheets on the computer. Regularly inform the Lead Radiopharmacy Technologist or Production Manager of current stock levels, highlighting materials potentially reaching their expiry date. Be responsible for maintaining stock levels of all reagents, disposable equipment, cleaning equipment, clean garments etc. used within Radiopharmacy and ensure reusable garments are returned to the supplier for processing. Assist with the management and operation of the Pharmaceutical Quality System as directed by the Radiopharmacy Production Manager/Pharmaceutical QA Manager, including involvement with deviations, complaints/recalls, investigations, corrective and preventative actions, and change control actions. Management Liaise with the Trusts hard and soft services providers and external companies about the maintenance and repair of equipment or facilities within Radiopharmacy. General Be familiar with and observe Good Manufacturing Practice and radiation safety when handling radioactive medicinal products. Attend and contribute to departmental, team and quality/service improvement meetings. Contribute as required to all inspections by or meetings with external inspection agencies (e.g., CQC, EA, MHRA, ONR) Participate in departmental and Trust audits. Participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to achieve agreed set objectives. Comply with the requirements of all relevant statutory regulations.
