Equans is looking for a Grounds Maintenance Assistant to join our facilities team at the University of Brighton Accommodation, Lewes Rd, Brighton, BN2 4QX. This is a permanent full-time position working 35 hours per week. On offer is a salary of £22,776 per annum and benefits.
Shift times: 08:30 to 17:00, Monday to Friday.
What will you deliver?
To maintain the allocated sites and associated grounds to a professional standard, by means of litter and weed control, graffiti removal, and snow and ice removal.
- Conduct litter picking and external grounds sweeping duties.
- Undertake weed control to the planters, raised beds and turfed areas as required by the most appropriate and safest means.
- Carry out winter maintenance preparation in advance of adverse weather and snow clearing duties including gritting services. Keep abreast of adverse weather conditions and put in place the relevant measures to ensure the site is kept safe for all users.
- Effective graffiti removal and application of graffiti resistant products.
- Lawn care by means of hand tools and mechanically propelled gardening equipment.
- Road and rainwater gulley maintenance and clearance of leaves and debris. Unblocking tiered planter drainage channels.
- Seasonal clearance of fallen leaves.
- Jet washing of external slabs & stairways.

Who are we looking for?
- Previous experience of grounds work is preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills and a high standard of work and attention to detail.
- Good organisation skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise work using own initiative.
- Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing, and to represent the company in a professional manner to the client and public.
- Ability to work within a team or autonomously.
- Multi-skilled with a flexible, proactive, can-do approach.
- Familiar with Health & Safety procedures.
