The role is to ensure that all motor vehicle repairs, pre-planned maintenance repairs and vehicle servicing, are completed within an accurate time scale and in a cost-efficient manner on vehicles where appropriate training has been provided.

To provide a safe, effective, and efficient maintenance and repair service within MOT standards for all vehicles and maintained by East of England Ambulance Service.

Responsible for diagnosing faults in vehicles and decide on the extent of the work required, making informed decisions as to the repair or replacement of faulty units.
Suitable candidates will have C1 category licence or be willing to work towards this within 6 months of starting which will be fully funded by the Trust, subject to the individual remaining with the organisation for a period of two years.

Please note we participate in the provision of a 24-hour breakdown service necessitating call out from home on a rota basis occasionally both at night/ weekends with appropriate time off the following day in line with the Working Time Directive.

As a Master Vehicle Technician, you will lead the maintenance and repair operations for our fleet of ambulances and emergency response vehicles.

You will utilise your advanced technical skills and leadership abilities to oversee the diagnosis, repair,
and maintenance of complex vehicle systems, ensuring the highest standards of reliability and safety to
support our critical emergency medical response services.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

• To cover certain aspects of managing the workshop in the absence of the Workshop Manager as directed by the Workshop manager, including workshop loading, and Job Card quality checks, Warranty procedures.

• Lead and supervise a team of vehicle technicians, providing guidance, mentoring, and technical expertise to ensure efficient and effective maintenance and repair operations.

• Conduct advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting on ambulance and emergency response vehicles, utilising specialised equipment and software to identify and rectify complex mechanical and electrical faults.

• Plan and prioritise maintenance schedules and repair tasks, coordinating with fleet management and operational personnel to minimise downtime and maintain service readiness.

• Perform in-depth mechanical, electrical, and electronic repairs, including engine and transmission overhauls, brake system repairs, and component replacements, ensuring compliance with manufacturer specifications and health and safety regulations.

• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs and procedures to prolong the lifespan of fleet vehicles and optimise operational efficiency.

A small, well-established automotive business has a permanent Full-Time vacancy available for a time-served experienced Automotive Technician looking to join its friendly team in Bedford. Candidates must be able to work on their own initiative within the workshop.

In addition to being competent in routine fault finding, general repairs and servicing, candidates must be familiar with diagnostic software and test equipment to diagnose and repair faults in engine management systems, ABS lighting and air-bags. Experience of using the Bosch ESI[tronic] software would be an advantage. Bosch trained Technicians would also be at an advantage.

Applicants must have a full clean driving licence.

Key Responsibilities Identify, diagnose and rectify faults, and carry out repairs and planned maintenance of a general nature of mechanical services, plant and equipment including but not limited to: steam raising plant, air conditioning/ventilation systems, heating systems, water and drainage systems, macerators, catering equipment, ward equipment, decontamination equipment. Carry out reactive and planned maintenance of a more complex nature in the buildings engineering services related to the core skill of the post holder. Fabricate, assemble, erect, install and commission new work, associated with the core skill. Assist team members where other skills are involved. Liaise with clinical staff to arrange shutdowns and maintenance of equipment and plant. Carry out periodic checking, servicing and testing of plant and equipment, in accordance with planned maintenance programmes and schedules. The post will involve working at height, using access equipment, lifting and handling of heavy objects, and working in enclosed spaces such as roof voids and service ducts etc. Familiarise, train or instruct others as appropriate. Day to day supervision of Maintenance Assistants. Comply with H.S.E. procedures and regulations and the Trusts Health and Safety policy, procedures and working practices. Abide by all infection prevention and control procedures. Complete all relevant paperwork systems necessary in the running of the department. Undertake training, where necessary, to improve skills, learn new techniques or to ensure compliance with regulations or procedures. Participate in the oncall arrangements providing 24 hour cover to the hospital. To have the ability to carry out minor duties of other trades when required such as electrical, building and carpentry.
