The housekeeping aids who maintain VA facilities for Veterans and their families are essential to the patient care experience at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). A VA healthcare career as a housekeeping aide means working alongside other Veterans, who make up 85 percent of the housekeeping staff.

As a Housekeeping Aid - Environmental Service Technician, you will perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties and routine housekeeping duties. Veterans rely on the skills of these professionals to keep patient areas clean and safe by addressing spills quickly, discarding trash, and vacuuming and polishing floors.

Duties include cleaning wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas. Housekeeping Aids sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and Venetian blinds, wash walls, windows and ceilings by climbing small ladders, refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers and move furniture. Housekeeping Aids carry out assignments with minimal supervision.

Work Schedule: Shifts include 6:00am - 2:30pm, 2:00pm - 10:30pm, or 10:00pm - 6:30am; and may include weekends and holidays. Work schedules will be discussed during the interviewing/hiring process.

Position Summary: 

The Endoscopy Technician is imperative to increasing efficiency, productivity, as well as patient and team satisfaction.  Responsible for room turnover, assisting in opening of supplies onto the sterile field, and patient care as delegated by the RN, CST, and/or the provider.  Additional responsibilities include patient transports, supply management, test and validation of anesthesia machine circuits between cases, and other duties as requested.  

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• American Heart Association BLS
• Preferred: EMT, CNA, Surgical Technologist, or health care related certifications
• Preferred: College courses related to health care (e.g. medical terminology)
• Preferred: Patient care work experience

Essential Job Functions:

• Completes timely and accurate room turnovers
• Cleans operating rooms after endoscopic procedures
• Sets up the procedure room and checks instruments, supplies, equipment, and solutions needed for the procedure
• Passes instruments, etc. to provider during a procedure.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Performs appropriate counts and specimen verification with circulator during the procedure and as appropriate intervals
• Transports patients safely between rooms and between beds.
• Maintains appropriate supplies and orders as needed.
• Performs other tasks as assigned

Responsible for safe & efficient practices for decontamination, instrument assembly, wrapping & sterilization of all reprocessed instruments, distribution of equipment, and case cart management. Supports departmental initiatives to meet productivity standard and flexible staffing needs. Interacts daily with a wide variety of staff, disciplines, service lines, and vendors.
