Technician / Fishery Studies

Joining a passionate team of lecturers and technical staff, this post offers an exciting opportunity to provide technician and instructional duties within University Centre Sparsholt’s fishery and aquatics provision.
The main requirements of the role will focus on supporting our Aquatic Research and Conservation centre, where we train aquarists of the future. The Facility includes tropical aquaculture systems, research facilities and ornamental marine and freshwater aquaria
There will also be occasional opportunities to provide further support within the Salmonid Rearing and Trials Centre, which includes a salmonid hatchery and on-growing unit, lab and fish processing area, and a trials unit with 72 tanks.
The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject, strong practical skills and demonstrable experience in water quality, aquatic husbandry, record keeping and aquatic health monitoring, together with excellent communication skills, a creative and flexible approach and a passion for fish! A current driving licence would be required.
We would also aim to appoint a candidate who in addition to the overseeing the operation of the facilities, can contribute to the education of the next generation of aquarists by providing practical instruction and support to our students and undertake some hours per week as an instructor, hours undertaken as an instructor would be paid at a higher hourly rate.

About the Role: • In this varied role, you will carry out a mix of planned preventative (PPM) and reactive maintenance across campus, ensuring work is completed promptly to minimise disruption to students. • You’ll investigate issues, determine the cause of damage, and either complete the necessary repairs yourself or coordinate with sub-contractors. • You’ll uphold high professional standards and actively promote a positive health and safety culture, adhering to existing infrastructure and regulations. • Ensure all buildings and services comply with statutory requirements and the Health and Safety at Work Act, providing necessary information to the Facilities Administration Team for compliance.
About You: • Experience in general building maintenance, including fault finding, repairs and installations. • A recognised qualifications or apprenticeship in a relevant trade such as electrical, mechanical, plumbing, or carpentry. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team and provide excellent customer service. • Able to work both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team. • Hold a full UK driving licence. Claremont Fan Court School is an independent day school for pupils aged from 2½ to 18 years. The school is set in 99 acres of historic landscaped grounds of the Claremont Estate in Esher, Surrey.
We are growing our team and are seeking to appoint 3 facilities assistants to work as part of the in-house team responsible for the safe upkeep and running of the school’s facilities.
Working throughout the year, Monday to Friday with the occasional Saturday (approx. 3-4 per year), 40 hours per week, 10.30am – 7.00pm. Key responsibilities of the role include portering, parking management, event logistics and site security. There will also be general repairs and maintenance across the site.
The successful applicant will be a strong team member and equally capable of working on their own. A good standard of DIY skills to undertake general maintenance and repairs is desirable although training will be provided. Experience of working in a school environment would be an advantage but is not essential. A strong customer service ethic is key.
