ABOUT THE ROLE
We have 2 full-time positions available for a 12 month Fixed Term contract.

The UKSeRP (UK Secure Research Platform) is a technology set developed by the Population Data Science group at Swansea University Medical School. Swansea University works with organisations in the UK and globally to pool knowledge and experience around the platform to facilitate the storage and secure access to research datasets to assist research activity.

Following the success of the SAIL databank, the infrastructure used to provide it was identified as suitable to host datasets for other research groups within Swansea. Following interest from organisations in Australia and Canada, implementation exists in 2 locations outside the UK.

In this role, you will:

Work as a member of the Innovation Team to deliver strategic projects, supporting our migration to Kubernetes.
Gain deeper experience in GitOps deployment strategies.
Work with senior team members to design, build, and deploy CI/CD pipelines to facilitate the work of our development team.
Have the opportunity to learn and use many cutting-edge technologies as we explore their adoption.
Use your knowledge of Python to implement and refactor Airflow DAGs to handle the data lifecycle within UKSeRP.

WELSH LANGUAGE SKILLS
The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The Infrastructure Technician assists with the day-to-day operation, security and delivery of our infrastructure services, developing and supporting products and services that are efficient, secure, perform optimally and are aligned to business goals and objectives. The post holder is responsible for assisting with the maintenance of configuration data, capacity planning, service availability and continuity.

They will adhere to service levels and all operational processes (such as incident, problem, change management processes) pertaining to end user compute services. The post holder will assist in supporting the 1st and 2nd line teams in providing end user support to the university (comprising student, staff and guests), and participate in continuous improvement analysis and design, as well as the development of infrastructure-based solutions and delivery.

The role will play an important part in assisting with the implementation of target state architectures by following coherent solution designs, Reference Architectures, Patterns and Standards and Roadmaps in close collaboration with the Cloud, Compute & Storage Manager and the Lead Infrastructure Architect

Digital Services are going through a rapid period of transformation and reimagining our IT Service Desk provision to meet the challenges of supporting and enabling a wider £20m investment in IT Services (in areas such as Cyber Security and Networking) will be a key foundational element.

The vision will be to reconnect our IT support provision with our customer’s needs, professionalise our services, save us all time and bridge the capability gaps we have.

The Service Desk team are the public face of Digital Services and will set standards in customer advocacy and engagement. Offering specialist support, advice and owning the resolution of Incidents and Problems for customers in a timely and efficient manner will be the cornerstones in achieving our vision.

As a 2nd Line IT Service Desk Technician specialising in AV Support, you will play a key role in delivering a customer-focused, professional AV support service.

Using your experience and skills (as well as those of your teammates and wider IT Services colleagues) to deal with incidents across the IT and AV landscape, will be the challenge to rise to in this role.
