The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $21.47 - $32.21 per hour. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

The details of the bonus will be discussed at interview and/or offer. The hiring bonus will not be applicable to City and County of Denver employees who are currently employed with the city or who have been separated from the city for fewer than 6 months.
Location and Schedule
This position will report to our off site Denver International Airport Maintenance Facility located about 5 minutes from DIA
This position requires ten-hour days, four days a week, 100% on site
Day Shift: 5:30 am to 4:00 pm or 6:00 am to 4:30 pm
Swing Shift: 4:00 pm to 2:30 am
Graveyard Shifts: 7:30 pm to 6:00 am
On Call Snow Overtime: 3:00am to 3:00pm or 3:00pm to 3:00am
Mandatory extended/additional shifts are required for snow removal operations.
If staffing challenges occur, weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees will be required to work extended hours and/or alternative shifts (includes nights, weekends, and holidays).
Shifts are not guaranteed and are subject to change.
7%-12% pay differential depending on shift assigned and equipment operated
As an Equipment Operator II at DEN, your role involves operating medium-sized, specialized machinery to carry out a range of tasks in construction, maintenance, and related activities. This includes using attachments designed for specific functions in conjunction with the equipment's operation and engaging in physical labor, ranging from light to heavy. Additional duties include:
Inspect the equipment for loose components, and damaged or worn tires, and ensuring proper tire air pressure, all of which are essential for safe operation
Perform pre-and post-trip inspections according to federal guidelines
While operating the equipment, you'll closely monitor onboard instruments and take immediate corrective measures if malfunctions are detected
When not operating or driving the equipment at work sites, you'll engage in manual labor related to construction and maintenance tasks
Contribute to equipment maintenance by washing and servicing vehicles with water, oil, and fuel, conducting basic maintenance, and making minor repairs
Keep detailed trip records and promptly reporting vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage are crucial aspects of your role
Interact with the public courteously, providing information within your assigned area
Train other employees in equipment operation and use

Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Understanding of the designs, installation, uses, repair, and maintenance of machines and tools

A team-focused work ethic emphasizing punctuality, flexibility, collaboration, and innovation
Availability to commit to a variable work schedule, especially during emergencies and inclement weather

Required Minimum Qualifications

Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
Experience Requirement: 3 years of general labor experience, with at least 2 years involving the operation of light to medium-sized equipment (Patch Truck, Pelican Sweepers, Crosswinds, Telescopic forklift, and Airforced one)
Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements
License/Certifications: Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements at the time of application
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
FBI Background Check
FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.
