Sellafield Ltd are recruiting Nuclear Operators and are looking for individuals who will promote a positive safety culture, act as custodian for front line operations and demonstrate excellent behavioural and Nuclear Professionalism standards.
Starting Salary: £31,239 with the opportunity to develop and progress to £32,725 via the pay progression process + an annual company bonus of up to £4k
Additional allowances starting from £1,620 per annum are also applicable to this role.
Working Pattern: Days (37.5 hours per week, typical hours are 07:30 - 15:40) however the Company may require you to work shifts or a variation of a standard day pattern.
If the opportunity for shift work becomes available once employed by the company, annual shift allowances range from £6,542 - £13,629.
Location: Sellafield, West Cumbria.
What will the Successful Candidate be Doing?
Our Nuclear Operators are responsible for the hands-on operation of plant systems and equipment on their facility. They may be trained in procedures for plant control and monitoring, sampling operations, environmental controls, radioactive discharges, emergencies, and other systems such as ventilation, steam and cooling water and dealing with the handling & disposal of radiological and hazardous waste. Our Nuclear Operators comply with all legislative, regulatory and company policies & procedures applicable to the role, follow the Sellafield Ltd Standards & Expectations and align to our Manifesto values.
The role of a Nuclear Operator is diverse and may be involved in some of the following activities:
* Operating a range of equipment, tools or transport following defined instructions and guidelines.
* Carrying out plant operations against prescribed procedures in support of safe and reliable operations.
* Monitoring plant, equipment, vehicles, systems, and material conditions, identifying and taking corrective action to resolve simple issues and reporting those which cannot be rectified as necessary.
* Escalating deviations from the norm and supplying information and / or supporting performance improvements to improve safe and secure operations.
* Performing log keeping and handovers in accordance with operating procedures, including log entries / notifications, to ensure the service status of the facility is known at all times and meets required standards.
* Complying with and supporting work against Disciplined Operations and Human Performance Standards.
* Housekeeping e.g., vehicles, equipment, plant, external areas, sumps, lagoons, drain gullies, rail tracks (rail workers only).
* Cleaning duties where required, e.g., hoovering, emptying bins, removing redundant equipment, cleaning up water leaks, pressure washing, wet vacuuming, de-icing and the removal of contamination including radioactive, chemicals or oils to ensure a safe & secure environment.
* Supporting the review of instructions or procedures and highlighting deficiencies to ensure that they are accurate and up to date.
* Supporting in the delivery of plant and process improvements to improve the quality and efficiency of service that the operations team provides to the organisation.
* Attending training and supporting the training of others by coaching and knowledge transfer.
* Complying with required site emergency arrangements and may be required to form part of an emergency response and undertake emergency tasks following clear instructions.
* Complying with all legislative, regulatory and company policies & procedures applicable to the role.

The Ideal Candidate
Applicants must be:
* Minimum age of 18 at time of employment.
* Able to work in radiation and contamination-controlled areas and attain Monitored Worker or Classified Worker classification, as required.
* Able to wear varying degrees of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) / Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) (may include latex gloves, leather gauntlets, full face respirators, coverall's, lead aprons, PVC suits, air-fed suits or breathing apparatus, etc).
* Able to achieve security clearance as a minimum (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).
Essential Skills:
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to work at heights including climbing ladders and stairs
* Ability to work in confined spaces or in hot / cold environments
* Able to build effective working relationships, work as part of a team or work alone
* Evidence of complying with policies, legal requirements or other legislation
* Demonstrable evidence of being safety focused, demonstrating good safety behaviours and being comfortable in raising safety concerns should they arise
* Evidence of following and complying with procedures
* Experience of operating Ancillary equipment, e.g., Cranes, Forklift or Pallet Trucks; Mobile Platforms, etc or have the ability to attain these as required
* Competent in the use of IT (MS Office, etc)
* GCSE's at Grade 4 (Grade C) or above in Maths, English Language & Science or an Engineering/ICT subject (or equivalent) in order for you to develop & progress in the company. Level 3 or above qualifications would supersede the need for GCSEs or Functional Skills. If you cannot provide evidence or do not hold the minimum qualifications, you will be asked to complete an additional aptitude test. Desirable Skills:
* Evidence of working to a Safe System of Work including Risk Assessment
