About The Company

Our client an established industrial manufacturing business are currently looking to recruit an experienced Production Planning Manager with at least 5 years' experience in a similar role within fast-paced, process-based manufacturing.

As Production Planning Manager, you will provide robust production and material planning to ensure delivery of the master production schedule. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of production planning/scheduling activity to the highest safety, operational, quality and inventory management standards, you will work with all functions to implement and facilitate improvements to optimise the planning/scheduling efficiency, maximising productivity and customer satisfaction and ensuring exceptionally high OTIF performance.

Planning Manager - Requirements

• Previous experience as a Production Planning Manager, with at least 5 years' experience in production planning.
• Previous experience within fast-paced industrial manufacturing environments
• At least 3 years working experience of SAP Products and Excel
• Ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Have a strong understanding of Demand vs Capacity processes and constraints

Planning Manager - Responsibilities

• Act as a key member of the Manufacturing Management Team, actively contributing to the overall strategy for the supply chain and operation of the business
• Provide robust production & material planning to ensure delivery of the master production schedule
• Responsible for forecasting, in addition to ensuring the plans compliment the Sales & Operation processes
• Provide an integrative approach in managing the total flow of all materials through the operational channels from suppliers to the customer
• Ensure the customer is kept supplied and finished goods are supplied "On Time In Full"
• Develop and support smart systems of work through automation, procedures & processes to ensure continual improvement in inventory control and stock levels
• Act as a key member of the manufacturing management team and contribute to the overall strategy for the supply chain and operation of the business.
• Work closely with the purchasing team to ensure material availability and stock levels balance and match production the plan.
• Create and actively progress and manage production plans.
• Automate current process flow from customer order to Finished Goods.
• Support the Implementation of planning tool software
• Act as a key stakeholder in SAP implementation.
• Work with manufacturing to provide the most efficient and robust production plans.
• Work closely with Operations, Sales and Technical functions.
• Facilitate effective communication, liaising with the SLT and across the business to achieve company objectives
• Ensure that Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental standards are adhered to including the requirements of ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001 and all matters relating to this are dealt with using the resources within the company.

What you will be doing:

In your position, you must be a role model to your team and the business. You commit to maintaining high standards of behaviour and personal appearance and endeavour to contribute to our quality and service ethos. You will be responsible for:

• Ensuring adherence to all Health and Safety policies adopted by OAR
• Maintain excellent GMP standards at all times, delivering quality standards required of customers and external audits, for example BRC
• To manage and control set KPI's - Productivity, Labour, Training, Recruitment / Retention, Downtime and Waste
• Proactive day to day problem solving to ensure daily plan is met - this includes bottleneck management and team management to ensure throughputs are maintained at target levels
• To carry out the HR function of the shift, in dealing with development and staff management, which will involve RTW's, investigations and disciplinaries.
• Ensure the smooth running of the core business by liaising professionally with department leaders to co-ordinate stock, production, picking and dispatch
• To motivate, manage, train and develop team workers and also, the interviewing, recruitment and retention of new starters

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities
Process works orders so that stock product orders can be processed without delay, and non-
stock orders can be planned into production, including material purchasing, external
processing etc.
Provide quotes for non-standard orders including accurate lead times and pricing.
Monitor the production team to ensure timely production, and maintain quality at all times.
Process orders to completion, dispatch, and invoice.
Identify opportunities of improvement, both efficiency and quality, and cost justify plans to
implement new processes.

Team Leadership
Monitor and cultivate a good working relationship with all staff members, working
collaboratively to help improve their working experience and the aims of the business.
Provide training where applicable, and keep all staff updated with H&S standards, health
monitoring etc.
Effectively communicate goals to staff members, including expectations and performance
requirements. Encourage communication to be a two-way process.

Inventory Management
Manage inventory levels and implement the use of software packages provided to support
production management processes.
Monitor levels of our own stock products which need planning into production, sometimes
requiring purchasing months ahead.
Communicate with suppliers to maintain good working relationship, monitoring supply prices,
and ordering in good time to reduce delays, whilst minimizing excess stock held and keeping
shipping costs to a minimum.

Quality Control
Establish Quality control procedures, working with staff and the managing director to
improve standards and reduce waste.
Regularly review quality standards to actively prevent issues.

Health and Safety
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and standards to maintain a safe
working environment for all. Assess any changes and update risk assessments regularly.

Business Development
Communicate frequently with the managing director about any issues which you feel could
benefit the business and the staff.
Work pro-actively to improve any element of the business within your remit/scope.
Simplify manufacturing processes to remove the reliance of engineering skills that are
currently provided by the managing director.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Food Production, Manufacturing, Operations, or farm management. Your responsibilities as a Production Manager will include:
* Leading and managing the production team, including pickers and packers, to ensure operations run smoothly and efficiently.
* Providing clear guidance and performance targets to operatives, clarifying their contribution to the business.
* Developing and implementing strategic plans to enhance production processes and overall efficiency.
* Training, coaching, and mentoring supervisors to bolster their leadership and management skills, aiming to improve pick rates.

* Making sure new Pickers & Placers adhere to relevant safe work systems and operating procedures.

* Fostering positive and cohesive teamwork to meet daily picking targets.
* Coordinating with Harvesting Team Leaders, Harvesting Supervisors, the Growing Manager, and the Engineering Manager regarding any issues with team members, yields, or machinery.
* Continuously monitoring and evaluating picking statistics, ensuring all harvesters meet minimum targets and implementing disciplinary actions if necessary.
* Assessing production performance, analyzing data, and pinpointing areas for improvement.
* Managing staffing levels and scheduling shifts to fulfill business requirements, including weekend

About you as the Production Manager

• Previous experience in a production management role, preferably in the agri-food industry
• Strong background in fresh food products is highly desirable.
• Experience of successfully managing and leading a team within a production / manufacturing environment.
• Food production / fresh food experience would be desirable.
• Proven management style focused on coaching, mentoring and inspiring.
• Experience of delivering on productivity, quality and performance.
• Experience of lean, continuous improvement and change management.
• Managing Health and safety
• Proven track record in strategic thinking and implementing process improvements.
• Excellent people management and leadership skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
