What we are looking for
This role of Senior Production Manager is key to ensuring the success of a significant business programme operationally, taking responsibility and ownership of the production plan and area, driving delivery performance, and adherence to budget, with a focus on implementation of improvements.
In addition, managing associated dependencies and line management of a project specific team across multiple functions.
Supporting the Marshall Land Systems Programme Director the successful Senior Production Manager will work collaboratively alongside the other functional managers to meet delivery objectives, manage performance, and ensure quality standards are maintained whilst fostering a safe working culture.
Responsibilities will include:
- Full accountability for the significant production programme and area for all SQCDP metrics and the high level configuration and conformance of delivered product.
- Managing and leading a team of supervisors and/or team leaders to manufacture, assemble and build Land Systems specialist products, on time, at the right quality and cost.
- Ensuring that all resources are working at the right levels of responsibility, and provide additional training as part of the PDR process as required.
- Proactively promoting a health & safety culture that is aligned with the MLS health & safety management system.
- Creating a continuous improvement environment within the workplace to drive and improve efficiencies in line with business cost reduction initiatives.
- Taking ownership of local policies and procedures and ensuring they are adhered to
- Actively engaging the team to create a positive mindset that will deliver all milestones and KPIs, and where necessary proactively provide recovery plans with route cause analysis and problem solving from lessons learned.
- Creating an autonomous team that provide a can-do attitude working legally, morally and ethically.
Tasks:
- Supporting SQCDP (safety, quality, cost, delivery, people) level 2 meetings and escalate issues to level 1 as appropriate.
- Monitoring and managing performance to budget (product/programme/overhead) and schedule; ensuring any issues and dependencies are managed and escalated where appropriate via the appropriate mechanisms.
- Supporting the programme team by forecasting Estimates to Completion and cost and schedule impact of engineering change in accordance with internal change management process.
- Supporting the programme team in defining and presenting Operations status updates in project meetings and contract status reviews.
- Ensuring coherent and consistent communications both up to the Programme Director, Head of Operations, and the executive team, and to the workforce via your team of production supervisors and team leaders.
- Supporting the Project Manager in understanding, quantifying, and managing risk to the project and/or program via internal risk reviews.
- Preparing for and supporting applicable gate reviews in accordance with Marshall's Life Cycle Management process (e.g., Production Readiness Reviews).
- Leading a cross- functional mobilisation team in preparation for new product introduction.
- Ensuring that manning levels and skill requirements are aligned to the production plan, and consider future capacity requirements through the SOP (sales and operation planning process).
- Submitting yearly budgets in line with production requirements and CAPEX/control and forecasting.
- Supporting the bid team from a production perspective to enable the bid process to progress efficiently.
- Ensuring regular performance reviews are undertaken with all supervisors; role model and ensure supervisors recognise strong operational performance and act on under-performance without hesitation.
- Succession planning to develop team members into future roles within the business.
- Attending senior leadership meetings, representing the production programme and as directed in line with business requirements.

Experience:
- Substantial experience in manufacturing and assembly processes and techniques.
- Demonstrable experience managing a diverse team of individuals in multiple trades.
- Proven ability to be able to lead a team through a period of strategic change, and ability to create winning teams.
- Desirable experience in vehicle body building, mechanical fitting, or equivalent trade.
- Desirable understanding and ability to read engineering drawings and associated design data.
- The ability to interact with all members of the team and possible customer interface.
- Consistent proven application to related tasks with a strong positive attitude.
- Proficiency with MS suite, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and MRP.
- Understanding of policies and procedures required to manage a team within a workshop environment.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5s techniques.
- Health and Safety, Fire and Environmental Policies.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
- IOSH Managing safely certification preferable.
- Preferable to have Leadership qualification, CMI, LM.
Based in the UK, with operations in Canada, Marshall Land Systems specialises in the design and production of deployable operational infrastructure and mission support for humanitarian, defence and security operations across the globe.
