The Project Archivist facilitates the access of the Workman Family Papers addendum material through organization, arrangement, and description according to established professional practices. The incumbent will develop and follow through a processing plan overseen by and designed in consultation with the supervisor of record, the Processing Archivist. This position is supported by gift monies. The term of the internship is projected to be one semester or 2 quarters, between 10-15 hours per week, not to exceed 19 hours per week.
Position-specific Responsibilities
- Arrange, describe, and process Workman collection according to archival standards and departmental guidelines. Develop processing plans and procedures in collaboration with the Processing Archivist.
- Prepare collection guides. Make collections available on the Online Archive of California via ArchivesSpace software.
- Maintain an established schedule of hours per week in Archives and Special Collections.
- Participate in a departmental program of preservation and conservation of materials through project work.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications
- Current enrollment in a graduate program in Library/Information Sciences, with prior course work accomplished in archives or manuscript management; or related field or equivalent experience. Post-graduate interns with a Master’s degree in Library/Information Sciences from an ALA accredited program or related field or equivalent experience are welcome to apply.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the fundamentals of the organization and description of archival collections. The selected applicant should also have a basic understanding of XML, EAD, DACS.
- Exemplary communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to work effectively with others and to work independently with minimal instruction and supervision.
- Highly developed organizational skills and thorough attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience processing archival collections, either through internships or regular employment.
- Basic knowledge of publishing collection guides to the Online Archive of California

Location & Hours
Incumbent is expected to work fully on-site, with a typical schedule to be arranged with supervisor, during core business hours Monday-Friday. Term of internship is 10-15 hours/week, for a duration of 16-20 weeks. Final schedule to be determined between incumbent and supervisor.
Salary
Per-diem position, with a budgeted salary of $25 / hr.
