Project Quantity Surveyor

About the role of Project Quantity Surveyor

Reporting to the Senior / Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will be a fundamental member of the team with a range of responsibilities, such as managing the procurement, commercial and contractual aspects in relation to construction projects. The key areas you will be concentrating on will be the procurement of sub-contractors, preparation and submission of external applications for payment, identification, pricing and agreement of change, valuation and agreement of sub-contractor accounts and the commercial management of projects. This is an exciting time for our client, we want you to be a valued member of the team whilst working on a range of varied projects and supporting our clients.

Responsibilities for Project Quantity Surveyor

• Pursue personal development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role.
• Comply with Company rules, policies and procedures at all times including those relating to data protection and information security
• Carry out any other reasonable tasks which may be required from time to time and to enable the company to remain adaptable to changing markets and needs
• Management of sub-contractor procurement.
• Attend sub-contractor Pre-Contract meetings.
• Preparation of formal sub-contract Agreements.
• Measurement of works.
• Management of legal issues and disputes.
• Management of important commercial issues.
• Management of sub-contractor interim accounts.
• Agreement of sub-contractor final accounts.
• Budgetary control including monitoring of costs and the prompt identification and management of overspend.
• Submission of monthly CVR
• Submission of monthly Profit and Loss reports.
• Preparation and presentation of Commercial and Post-Contract Reviews.
• Management and submission of external Applications for Payment.
• Identification, pricing and settlement of Compensation Events, variations and additional works.
• Agreement of Client final accounts.
• Supervision and training of junior members of staff.
• Attendance at staff appraisals.
• Convene and attend internal team meetings.
• Attend Client and Design meetings as required.
• Convene and attend sub-contractor meetings as required.

Requirements for Project Quantity Surveyor

It is essential that you hold a BSc, NVQ4 or MSc qualification along with a relevant CSCS card. You will be an excellent communicator and have the ability to motivate and influence with ease. In addition, you will be a natural problem solver with exceptional commercial acumen and confident decision maker. It is essential that you have a solid understanding of construction techniques and processes, along with an excellent understanding of various forms of Method of Measurement and standard engineering contracts as well as having the appreciation and willingness to adopt Value engineering principles. Finally, you will have excellent IT skills; enjoy working in a positive and thriving environment.

The Role - Business Administrator

As a Business Administrator you will be working within the head office in Preston and will be responsible for assisting with a number of duties which include:

• Ensure the office facilities and consumables are maintained in an organised manner.
• Support the site team in the preparation of correspondence and reports.
• Book and facilitate the organisation of meetings.
• Preparation and distribution of all relevant papers in advance.
• Sort, maintain, copy and distribute correspondence as directed.
• Ensure relevant paperwork is filled appropriately and maintained in an organised manner.
• Have a high-level appreciation of the document management system and be able to scan, upload and retrieve documents.

Required Skills/Experience?

• Experience working in a construction environment would be highly desirable, although it is not essential to the role.
• Experience working in a similar role elsewhere.
• The ability to work on your own initiative, with minimal supervision, effectively managing your time and completing tasks in order of priority.
• Proficiency with a variety of IT software, including Microsoft Office.
• You will be an excellent communicator, both verbal and written, with excellent record-keeping skills and attention to detail.

Highways/Bridges/Infrastructure/Clean Water/Public Realm

£65,000 - £70,000 p/a + £6450 car allowance

Are you a Planner with experience in the civil engineering industry? Fawkes & Reece are currently recruiting for a prominent civil engineering contractor based in Preston. Working across various Frameworks across the Northwest of England involved in Public realm, Water, Highways, Bridges, and more!

Planner Key Accountabilities

• Reporting to the Pre-Construction Director
• Produce tender stage programmes working alongside the estimators,
• Create, manage, update and maintain an internal report detailing progress of all live projects
• Liaise with Project Teams to update programmes based on progress
• Develop and manage project programmes
• Where Compensation Events / Variations are identified, liaise with Project Teams and Commercial
• Provide high-level programme extracts to Project Teams for delivery and reporting purposes
• Contribute to discussion on phasing, approach and methodology of works on site
• Review post-contract performance of projects with the Project Team

Skills and Knowledge

• Appropriate industry qualification, e.g. BSc, HND or, NVQ3 etc.
• Industry background and experience working as a planner - ideally in excess of 5 years experience in a civil engineering environment (Highways, Clean Water, Infrastructure, Bridges, Structures, Energy)
• ASTA Powerproject or Primvera P6 experience required
• Understanding and appreciation of the requirements on NEC3 / 4 Contracts
• Experience on £500,000 - £15 million projects (Highways, Clean Water, Infrastructure, Bridges, Structures, Energy)
• Experience working multiple bids per month (2-4)
• Clear, concise oral and written communications, internally and externally
• Information management skills
• Ability to quickly digest information
• Ability to motivate and influence people
• Time management skills
