The role of Assistant Director/Consultant in Public Health is a senior position within the Public Health Directorate and will report to the Director of Public Health.
In Health and Care Portsmouth, the city has set out a clear direction for future services across the local care system in a challenging financial environment; the overall ambition is to have leadership of the 'place' working within the integrated care system. The Assistant Director/Consultant in Public Health (CPH) will be expected to work in partnership with other teams at the Council and external stakeholder to help deliver this vision and improve outcomes for our residents. This will be achieved by a combination of strategic leadership and the commissioning and / or direct delivery of public health services.
What you will need to succeed
This is a senior role within the Public Health Directorate Management Team and we are looking for a consultant with senior leadership experience who can influence stakeholders to make decisions and policy changes, often in challenging and complex environments.
The post holder will have strategic responsibility for some health improvement, health protection, healthcare, public health areas and public health input into children's, adults and families. The post will be part of the Public Health Directorate and will report to the Director of Public Health for Portsmouth. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly within the public health team and take on other areas dependent on the needs of the population and team.
This is an exciting time for Public Health in Portsmouth. We are working closely with children's and families services, Adult Social Care and with NHS HIOW (ICB) on the 'place' health and wellbeing agenda. There are opportunities to work across the Hampshire, Isle of Wight Integrated Care System (ICS) on Prevention and Health Inequalities, and on areas such as Population Health, Cost of Living and violence reduction. We want to recruit a leader who will shape, lead and drive our public health work plan, supporting our City based public health team to improve the health outcomes for our residents.
