As the Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide essential legal support to the International Business unit, with an emphasis on commercial, manufacturing, and development initiatives. This role will include corporate and commercial advisory responsibilities, focusing on the negotiation and drafting of agreements, supporting the legal function's budget and compliance oversight, and liaising closely with the General Counsel. You'll also contribute to maintaining regulatory compliance, particularly within Australian non-health sectors, and provide guidance on environmental and employment-related matters. This fixed-term contract is anticipated to last 6-9 months, with the potential for extension.
Key responsibilities include:
Delivering comprehensive legal support for contract negotiation, drafting, and review.
Assisting with regulatory compliance, especially concerning competition, consumer, and privacy laws.
Overseeing and tracking legal budgets, monitoring spending, and providing forecasting support.
Offering localised legal advice on employment and environmental matters.
Providing training and guidance to staff on relevant legal issues, including privacy and anti-bribery compliance.
What you'll need to succeed
To thrive in this role, you'll need a strong foundation in Australian corporate and commercial law, with particular expertise in contract negotiation and regulatory compliance. This role suits a highly organised, detail-oriented legal professional with a proven track record in commercial contracting within the pharmaceuticals or a similar sector. Exceptional communication and analytical skills are essential, along with a commitment to ethical conduct and client service.
Key qualifications include:
7-9+ years of post-admission legal experience.
Expertise in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
Strong familiarity with competition, consumer, intellectual property, and privacy laws.
Proficiency in regulatory compliance, specifically non-health Australian regulations.
Proven organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively.
