Our client, Postal Angels Pty Ltd. trading as IGA, is a well-established supermarket located in Coonamble, NSW, serving the local community and surrounding areas. As part of the Independent Grocers of Australia (IGA) brand, IGA offers a wide range of grocery products, cooked food takeaways, bakery items, fresh produce, and dairy products. To ensure a safe and secure environment for both customers and staff, our client is seeking a Security Officer to join their team.
As the Security Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the supermarket premises, its staff, customers, and property. Your role will involve patrolling the store, monitoring security systems, responding to security breaches or disturbances, and ensuring compliance with company safety procedures.
In addition to providing a visible security presence, you will manage access control and support cash-handling activities. Your focus will be on preventing theft, managing conflicts, and maintaining order, especially during high-traffic periods.
The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring a secure shopping environment at SUPA IGA, preventing theft and mitigating risks to staff and customers. You will be expected to communicate effectively with the team, report all incidents, and assist in developing and maintaining a safe atmosphere for all patrons. You will also support the day-to-day operations by ensuring all security protocols are followed and participate in any emergency drills or situations that arise.
Key Responsibilities:
• Patrol and monitor premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion or theft.
• Inspect and secure entry and exit points, ensuring the premises remain secure.
• Respond to alarms, investigate disturbances, and liaise with law enforcement as needed.
• Operate security systems such as surveillance cameras and access control devices.
• Control access to restricted areas and ensure the safety of staff, customers, and property.
• Report and document security breaches, suspicious behavior, and hazards according to company procedures.
• Assist in crowd control during peak hours and handle emergencies, including evacuation or first-aid situations.
• Escort staff during cash handling and transportation for safe money movement.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Certificate III in Security Operations or relevant qualifications.
• At least one year of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications listed above.
• A valid NSW Security License is essential.
• Experience in a security role, preferably in a retail or supermarket setting.
• Strong observational and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to stay calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
• Familiarity with security systems and emergency protocols is an advantage.
