Contract Position - March to September 2024
Key Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Regional Counsel, Asia and ANZ, this role will provide legal support to AbbVie businesses in the Asia region
- Working with the AbbVie global and regional Legal teams and a key partner to local business teams/ management to assist on regional and local legal matters/ projects on a wide range of matters
- Identify legal issues and risks related to assigned matters and collaborate with stakeholders to propose practical solutions, mitigate risks and resolve legal issues using negotiation skills and legal expertise
- Provide legal analysis and advice focused on business-oriented solutions on a wide range of matters including corporate/commercial matters, contract law, pharmaceutical laws and compliance, competition law, data protection, employment, disputes and general risk management
- Independently draft and negotiate legal agreements such as distribution agreements, promotion and marketing agreements, manufacturing agreements, service agreements, sale and purchase agreements, termination and settlement agreements
- Maintain, update and assist to develop AbbVie standard contract terms and contract templates
- Oversee corporate secretarial matters
- Conduct legal research
- To the extent that complex problems or specific technical expertise is required, effectively manage the use of external counsel so as to generate optimal value and ensure quality advice in the services provided to AbbVie
- Expected to develop solid knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry legal requirements and regulations, AbbVie’s businesses and knowledge of the broader business impact of decisions made
- Expected to keep abreast of changes in laws that affect AbbVie’s business
- Coach and conduct training for the business and functions on key legal requirements and developments
- Contribute and participate actively in Global, regional and local Legal function projects and initiatives
- Establish legal processes, develop checklists and working tools for the business and the legal function
Education
· Law degree with a reputable university
· Good understanding of contract, corporate and commercial law, anti-bribery laws, ethics and compliance
· Understanding and experience with intellectual property matters (protection of trade secrets, patents and trademarks), personal data protection and competition law matters is a plus
Skills and Experience
· Minimum 8 years post qualification experience preferably gained from a reputable law firm and as an in-house counsel in a multinational organization.
· Bar admission in Singapore or another common law jurisdiction
· Experience and familiarity with the legal framework and advising businesses in Asia (including India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand and/or Philippines)
· In-house legal experience in the life science / pharmaceutical industry is preferred
· Excellent written and spoken English
· Ability to write and converse in another Asian language is a plus.
