An exciting opportunity has become vacant for a Digital Senior Database Administrator to join our fast growing and diversely skilled team to support, maintain and develop the Trusts Microsoft SQL databases and database instances residing in private datacentres and MS Azure.
The successful candidate will possess skills and experience that aligns with the essential requirements within the attached person specification and provide evidence of these within their application .

To deliver the role of Digital Senior Database Administrator utilising highly developed specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices relating to IT database management.
Responsible, for the efficient and effective support and maintenance of IT databases and services throughout the Trust, providing installation or repair, and maintenance of EEAST Trust information or database assets.
Development of a database security awareness 'program' to raise awareness of database resilience, reliability, integrity, and security amongst staff, assisting in promoting an IT security culture.
Lead on ensuring and maintaining the confidentiality, resilience, reliability, integrity and security, and availability of Trust database systems.
Be the Trust’s subject matter expert in all matters of database management resilience, reliability, integrity, and security. Provide highly specialised advice to the Trust on how to relate raw operational data into meaningful feature-rich reports.
Provide input to the IM&T Strategy for database management.

1. Key Responsibilities of the Role
• Undertake the technical review and design of all databases, replication, backup and restore, reporting services, and supporting technical documentation.
• Prime responsibility for the formulation and implementation of policies, relating to the support and maintenance of SQL database servers which are used to provide Trust wide clinical services and financial services.
• Responsible for the installation build, patching, and security of SQL servers in various configurations, including enterprise, clustered, and standard configurations.
• Responsible for all configuration issues relating to SQL servers and database options, including logging, collation, paging, and indexing.
• Responsible for setting and maintaining complex database plans, backups, and administration options.
• In the event of problems, operational responsibility for making rapid personal decisions regarding the most appropriate action to ensure continued (24/7) availability of core systems.
• Providing software and hardware change and release management within the IT guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Working at a highly complex level of technology, using a mixture of SQL server releases and operating systems, to undertake detailed analysis, design, programming and testing work on all SQL systems developed within Digital Services.
• Responsible for detailed research and analysis of sometimes complex, sensitive clinical/non-clinical information derived from IT systems, working at a wide variety of levels, such as Trust wide, clinical audits/research or individual patient/user, and information audits.
• Responsible for the monitoring of various system logs, to ensure that the systems operate correctly with optimised performance.
• Maintain complex IT database systems used in all areas across the Trust.
• Ensure all SQL server applications are fit for purpose in terms of routine operation throughout the Trust.
• To fully implement system upgrades for use across the Trust.
• To monitor, review and implement improvements, as required, following a full consultation process with users, both internal and external, in a controlled change management approach.
• Specify the details of database internal design and implementation, supervising and managing less senior staff, working closely with the other technicians (of all grades) within the Team to motivate and influence outcomes.
• To liaise with, and influence, other members of the Trust at all levels relating to the design, development and implementation of new or enhanced systems functionality, providing detailed and highly complex technical advice.
• Responsible for the analysis and presentation of highly complex clinical/information/audit data, in order to aid interpretation and further analysis by those requesting the information.
• To regularly test system applications and hardware, business continuity, and Disaster Recovery Plans.
• Responsible for personal development in SQL server programming, administration and performance tuning techniques, and in the underlying design of the systems developed within IT Services.
• Responsible for the detailed specification of hardware and software systems to be used in the service provision, for which Digital Services has responsibility.
• Coordinating work with members of the Team in order to ensure prompt resolution of problems relating to use of IT and information applications and systems.
• Routine monitoring of advances/changes in relevant technologies, with a view to potential extension/enhancement of current and future Trust systems. Where new technologies offer potential benefit to the organisation, responsible for further evaluation, incorporation within larger system designs, and implementation.
• Proactively keeping personal expertise updated with respect to relevant hardware, software packages, and operating systems.
• Promoting and maintaining the highest standards of professional conduct, responsibility and confidentiality, in respect of any data held, accessed, or processed by the Digital Directorate.
• Maintain associated technical documentation to the highest standards to aid in the support of systems/databases.
• Establish, lead, and work collaboratively as a Team member in multidisciplinary teams, building relationships, trust, and confidence. The teams will span organisational silos and include partners, other organisations, and run from initiation of design work through to managing delivery of solution(s), and training of technical staff.
• Participate in the development and maintenance of the policies, processes and standards to support the work of the Digital projects and programmes across the Trust, and contribute to business planning activities for the function. This includes designing the environment, standards, patterns and structures, to support better service design.
• Provide visibility of the work of the Team to the organisation, working in an open and transparent way, creating a culture of sharing and reflective learning, ensuring continuous improvement.
• Responsible for the Trust wide SQL licensing budget, managing instances appropriately to maximise return on the investment.
• Ensure effective planning and scheduling of a broad range of complex activities including resource planning and management. Maintain/update these plans in line with schedule changes/progress as required.

• Have the mental agility to maintain concentration despite interruptions, juggling the analysis and design of multiple systems at any one time.

• To negotiate with, liaise with, coordinate, and monitor the activities of suppliers and internal ICT staff, as appropriate, to ensure all projects are implemented in a timely manner, to a high quality and to agreed standards.
• Present and discuss complex data to a range of audiences, including key stakeholders, large groups, and up to Director/Senior Management level.
