The Lexington VA Health Care System (LVAHCS) is a fully accredited, two-division, tertiary care health care system with an operating bed complement of 172 hospital beds. LVAHCS received a 5-star CMS rating & is 1 of 7 VA Patient Safety Programs of Excellence. The Troy Bowling Campus, located adjacent to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, offers specialty outpatient care, inpatient acute medical, neurological, surgical, & psychiatric care. The Franklin R. Sousley Campus has a 5-star Community Living Center & cottages with hospice and respite services, primary care, home-based primary care, prosthetics, women's health, optometry, podiatry, massage therapy and chiropractic, mental health, substance abuse treatment, acute rehabilitation, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder residential rehabilitation treatment. LVAHCS also operates four VA community clinics in Somerset, Morehead, Hazard, & Berea, KY. Lexington VAHCS is part of the VA MidSouth Healthcare Network, which consists of five medical centers in Kentucky and Tennessee.

The incumbent shares with the Executive Leadership Team a level of responsibility for the direction and management of the healthcare system and is directly responsible for all facilities operations. The incumbent has direct line authority and leadership responsibility for all administrative operation support services. The incumbent participates on a day-to-day basis in top level executive discussions, decisions, policy making and actions of all administrative functions and indirectly of all clinical matters impacting patient care.

The Associate Director is responsible for taking an active leadership role in coordinating and developing customer and stakeholder support and resourcing to meet objectives of the healthcare system. Develops collaborative partnerships with stakeholders and makes program execution decisions that affect or determine long range courses of action of critical importance. The incumbents managerial duties and responsibilities involve final decisions which have a direct and substantial effect on the health care organization and programs related to facility operations. These include, but are not limited to decisions affecting the nature, scope, quality of, and emphases on, the facility's patient care programs and activities.

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:

• Sharing with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) a level of responsibility for the direction and management of the healthcare system and is directly responsible for all facilities operations.
• A direct line authority and leadership responsibility for all administrative operation support services.
• May serve as the Acting Executive Director in the absence of the Director.
• Taking an active leadership role in coordinating and developing customer and stakeholder support and resourcing to meet objectives of the healthcare system.
• Determining operational services and programs goals and objectives, develop short-and long-range plans for achieving them in conjunction with the overall plans of the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) and consistent with the strategic planning process.
• Directing a comprehensive evaluation of operational services goals and objectives and makes necessary adjustments to improve delivery of patient care services.
• Establishing local policy in such areas impacting facility operations as program emphasis and operating guidelines.
• Administering and ensuring compliance with a system designed for the development and communication of program policies and procedures in accordance with new or existing rules and regulations.
• Administering a management reporting system which provides appropriate data for decision making for facility operations, impacting organizational improvements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Description:

Baptist Health is looking for a Regional Director, Compliance and Privacy - East to join our team. This is a remote position that requires residency in KY, IN, or IL

Directs and monitors physician practice-related compliance activities on a daily basis which may include more than 50 physical locations and/or more than 200 physicians and non-physician practitioners as well as their support staff, including practice acquisitions in the assigned region.  Contributes to the fulfillment of the mission and vision by planning, designing, implementing and maintaining professional practice programs, policies and procedures.  Assists in the implementation of system-wide and professional practice policies and procedures, develops and conducts educational programs and administers reviews related to the Baptist Health HIPAA Privacy Program.  Oversees all ongoing regional activities related to the development, implementation, maintenance of and adherence to the Baptist Health policies and procedures covering the privacy of, and access to Protected Health Information (PHI) in compliance with federal and state laws and BHS policies and procedures.

Responsible for the due diligence on compliance-related issues and determines the appropriate corrective action, to include the identification of operational gaps, process improvement needs, identification of educational opportunities and coordinating resolution.  Communicates findings and recommendations to the BHMG regional leadership team and facilitates effective resolutions in a timely manner.

This position requires frequent travel within assigned region (up to 60%).  Travel expenses may be reimbursable according to the Baptist Health Travel policy. 

Minimum Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of experience in physician practice operations, compliance, medical billing, or related area is required. 

• Minimum of three years of management experience in physician practice operations, compliance, or other related area is required.  (A minimum of five years' work experience which demonstrates strong leadership may be considered in lieu of management experience.)

• Demonstrated leadership skills with strong commitment to assume responsibility and effectively collaborate across all levels of an organization.

• Physician Coding Certification (by AHIMA and/or AAPC) and/or Certification in Compliance (HCCA or AAPC) and experience in physician procedural and diagnosis coding, third party payer reimbursement, and CMS requirements specific to Medicare Part B preferred.

• Exceptional organizational and time management skills and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times is required.

Baptist Health is looking for a Director of Patient Safety to join our team in Paducah, KY

The Director of Patient Safety for the Healthcare Facility will maintain effective organization in all aspects of the Patient Safety-Risk Management Program for the healthcare facility. Specific activities include the coordination and direct clinical support for the patient safety and the risk management program, staff education, management of claims, and the investigation of safety events as defined in BHS Legal and Risk Management policies, maintaining appropriate records as needed to document investigation and claims and the ongoing risk management files. The Director of Patient Safety will provide support to employees as needed during the review and investigation of safety events as well as depositions and interviews with outside counsel. The Director of Patient Safety will maintain the safety event-reporting program for the facility, including timely reviews of all reported events and identifying actual and potential patient harm events and events that may also arise to claim or litigation status. The Director of Patient Safety facilitates and participates in pro-active risk assessments based on relevant literature and sentinel event alerts. The Director of Patient Safety will work with the Regional Director of Patient Safety Officer and Risk Management to provide oversight; recommends preventative and/or remedial solutions that will improve safety, reduce hazards, prevent loss, transfer risks, and minimize the chance of harm to patients, visitors, staff, and the organization. The Director of Patient Safety will notify the Regional Director of Patient Safety and Risk Management, Assistant Vice President for Risk Management and Insurance Services, Healthcare Facility President and senior management as quickly as possible of serious incidents as they occur. The Director of Patient Safety will work with Defense Counsel and BHS litigation counsel as directed and as requested to obtain additional information, provide records, set up appointments, etc.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required

• Education: 5 years of experience in healthcare risk management required; bachelor’s degree in nursing or clinically related Healthcare Field relevant to the scope of the role required. 

• Certification as a Professional in Healthcare Risk Management preferred.
