Senior Programmer

The role holder will work as part of a professional service delivery team dedicated to the provision of an efficient, effective and quality driven Information Technology service to staff and students within the Corporate, Administrative, Academic Research and Learning and Teaching functions of the University.

Reporting to the Division Manager of Advanced Research Computing @Cardiff (ARCCA), you will have expertise in programming as well as an understanding of research within a computational science domain. You will deliver senior application-level support to promote and enable researchers to exploit clustered HPC systems. As a key member of the ARCCA team, you will foster collaborations and build partnerships with leading academics, both internally and with the wider external community, to enable research using techniques at the forefront of innovative high-performance computing (HPC).

You will provide a highly professional, friendly and customer focused face to the services offered by Information Services.

The role holder will take lead responsibility for:-
The specification, design, development, integration, testing and documentation of large or complex systems and their architecture, selecting the most appropriate design standards, methods and tools consistent with agreed enterprise and solution architectures and ensure they are applied effectively. You will review others' systems designs to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and integration of multiple systems and technology. You will contribute to policies for the selection of architecture components. You will evaluate and undertake impact analysis on major design options and assess and manage associated risks. You will ensure that the system design balances functional, service quality and systems management requirements.
The specification of user/system interfaces, including validation and error correction procedures, processing rules, access, security and audit controls. You will assess associated risks, and specify recovery routines and contingency procedures. You will assist with the translation of logical designs into physical designs.
The maintenance of application support processes, and check that all requests for support are dealt with according to agreed procedures. You will use application management software and tools to investigate issues, collect performance statistics and create reports.

The role may also involve the line-management and leadership of staff supporting technical and functional solutions and/or services in the role-holder’s technical domain.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week) and open ended.

Salary: £49,794 - £54,395 per annum (Grade 7)

As part of a data company, Homes.com plays a strategic role in the design and implementation of the data that powers our consumer websites, customer portals, and countless other data products. Primary responsibilities include the design and implementation of management, reporting, portal, and other systems that support our consumer, customer, executive, sales, marketing, and research experiences. Additionally, they perform a vital role in our corporate integration projects. They will design, implement, and maintain complex database code in T-SQL and SSIS for transaction processing systems and data warehousing.

This position is located in Irvine, CA and offers a hybrid schedule of 3 days onsite, 2 days remote.

Responsibilities:

• Leverage your TSQL and SSIS skills in the development of our next generation data platforms that drives the data that is displayed on Homes.com
• Use your Data Warehouse experience to help design and develop Homes.com DW that’s heavily used by internal customers for Business Intelligence, KPI monitoring, and driving Product
• Ensure systems are designed for scale and be able to test for load and analyze results
• Participate in the quality assurance on the systems we build to keep our platform accurate and reliable
• Work well in small, tight knit agile teams

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required from an accredited, not for profit university or college
• A track record of commitment to prior employers
• 5+ years in SQL Server development in a large-scale enterprise application environment, including:
  • Stored procedure and query development
  • Performance tuning, indexing techniques, and materialized views
  • Schema design
  • Data integration using SQL Server Integration Services or equivalent
  • Experience working with RDS, Snowflake, PostgreSQL and DynamoDB
  • SQL Server Availability Groups
  • Columnstore design, loading, and analysis
  • Replication and bulk data propagation techniques
  • SQL Server Reporting Services
  • Expert level proficiency with T-SQL
  • Advanced skills and experience with ETL concepts and SSIS
  • Advanced skills and experience with data modeling (Logical and Physical)

Preferred Qualifications

Business Intelligence and reporting experience (e.g., Spotfire) is a plus

Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) is a plus

Knowledge of cloud solutions (eg., Amazon Redshift, Teradata cloud) is a plus

This position offers a base salary range of $110,000.00 – 198,600.00, based on relevant skills and experience and includes a generous benefits plan.

The Software Developer will be part of a team of peers working on highly technical, software architecture initiatives.

You must have the following competencies:
Object-Oriented Programming, Specification and Documentation in C/C++
Data Modelling: Database and XML Schema Design
Documentation Management, including UML use case diagrams & descriptions, class & component modelling, sequence & activity modelling and source code documentation tools and techniques.

Job duties
Research, tools evaluation, documenting patterns, design and standards, contributing into defining technology strategy, technology evaluation and recommendation, writing code for solutions.
Contribute across the full software development life cycle: coding, code reviews, research and mentoring other developers.
Work closely with business analysts on the specification and verification of requirements and quality attributes for software projects.
Clearly document the design of the tasks in ways that are consumable by the various stakeholders: managers, partners, consultants, sales & marketing, developers, end-users.
Provide technical assistance in negotiations with outsourcing companies.
Communicate specifications and provide technical direction to the various in-house, off-shores and outsourced development teams.
Produce accurate estimates for tasks and assist project scheduling activities.
Assist in design, development and maintenance of development infrastructure for development teams - code and commit management, build scripts, dependency management, packaging and publishing.
