As a Software Solutions Engineering Role within Thales you will:

Work within in a Scrum team with other software developers, in Agile mode
Contribute to the requirement definition, to the software design and you will be involved with the architectural aspects of the software projects

Role

We are looking for a talented software engineer, with experience working in back-end web technologies, to join Thales Training Solutions at what is an exciting time. You will be joining an existing team of dynamic engineers to play a key role in delivering Thales’ next generation digital twin and simulation products.

The teams work within an Agile development environment, using modern Continuous Integration (CI) processes and tooling.

Junior Hardware Engineer (R0237837)

Location – Crawley (Hybrid)

The Role

Provide Hardware support to the current team involved in evaluating solutions, investigating problems and designing circuits. This will be primarily in the HF domain but may extend to the V/UHF domain.

The role will involve the use of simulation tools to aid in the analysis and development of circuits,  you will also produce circuit schematics and provide input into PCB layout engineers to assist in the PCB design activity. 

You’ll design electronic hardware rigs and assemblies and perform hardware integration, verification and qualification. You will also produce design documentation through the complete product lifecycle from requirements capture through verification test schedules to manufacturing test specifications. It is expected that the successful candidate will develop within this role to take on increasing technical responsibility.

This is a very diverse role, working across disciplines, not pigeonholed into singular RF products, or even just RF, but tackling key development challenges across hardware, testing, fault-finding, software, firmware across a variety of R&D programmes.

Good communication skills are essential as the role involves collaboration across departments on the site to ensure a design’s smooth transition through purchasing and manufacturing, along with reporting progress to project management.

Key Responsibilities 

• Support the RF team in problem solving and solution evaluation.

You will work in a highly technical, high performing, world class team who are leaders in this their business area. You will play a key part in new state of the art products and developments in the field of fully digital Electronic Warfare solutions. The role will provide you with opportunities to gain exposure and develop your skills across Thales.

Hardware Engineering Manager – Electronic Warfare Solutions

About the role

Thales Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) design and deliver hardware into Electronic Warfare Solutions for the UK MoD  & export customers and have an exciting opportunity for a Hardware Engineering Manager to join the team in Crawley. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of engineering designs and developments to agreed cost, schedule, performance and quality.

Your focus will be on ensuring that all the disciplines understand their part and that they work together as a team to achieve timely delivery of development milestones. You will oversee a range of activities regarding customer requirements, architectural design, and development and production life cycle of the hardware solution.

You will work in a highly technical, high performing, world class team who are leaders in this their business area. You will play a key part in new state of the art products and developments in the field of fully digital Electronic Warfare solutions. The role will provide you with opportunities to gain exposure and develop your skills across Thales.

This role require UK SC level security clearance and is based in Crawley with some flexibility to work from home and occasion UK wide travel to other Thales and customer sites.

Day to day you will

• Manage packages of hardware design work.

• Interpretation and decomposition of system requirements & algorithms.

• Manage hardware design and development activities accross electrical, electronic, mechanical and RF disciplines to deliver the overall hardware solution

• Work with other engineering and support disciplin leads to achieve delivery of the overall programme

• Hardware Integration & Verification.

• Manage test, measurement, debug and verification of the overall hardware solution

• Technical Management of Subcontractors.

• Design Assurance (Complex Electronics).

• Provide Technical assistance to production.

About You

You will have a background in Hardware Engineering and a solid understanding of Engineering Development Lifecycles. The successful applicant will have proven experience leading engineering activity through design & development lifecycles in the defence industry domain. Experience in system integration, platform installation and acceptance in a military environment would also be beneficial.

You will have demonstrable experience of collaborating, leading and pulling together teams, excellent listening skills, logical thinker, driven with a proactive, can do, mentality.

Software Function Lead- Military

We are currently looking for a Software Function Leader to join Thales UK Avionics Division based in Crawley, United Kingdom.

As a Software Function Leader you will have the opportunity to lead software delivery teams across a range of projects, operating systems and development environments.

You will play a pivotal role within the Software Function working across a range of technology based solutions for Civil and Military customers in the areas of airborne voice and data communication services to support cockpit and cabin; secure on-board connectivity to facilitate multiple levels of secure information exchange; and tactical mission support from planning to execution and post flight review.

This position will be part of the Software leadership team, supporting a range of product developments. Through the Thales UK software wider community you will gain exposure to a broad range of Thales products across all business lines. You will be given the opportunity to demonstrate your leadership skills, and over time you will have the opportunity to progress into further engineering leadership roles.

The Function Leader is responsible to the Avionics - Head of Software for ensuring the effective management of the Function.

Supports the development of the Function’s technology roadmap consistent with the strategic needs of the Domains as defined by the Avionics Business Strategy

Other Key responsibilities include:

• Resource management
• Line Management including appraisal activities and skills development of the team
• Pro-actively support processes developed to support Safety-in-Design, Airworthiness and in particular to RTCA DO-178 certification and general compliance obligations.
• Technical support to BIDs for own capability
• Validate design, requirements architectural compliancy
• Work closely in support of the Heads of Engineering to ensure the delivery of development
• Support the Avionics - Head of Software to ensure the completion of the Cost Centre budget within the SBP/MYB timeframe and to ensure all aspects of the budget are achieved.
