Job Description:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Human Resources, the HR Business Partner (HRBP) will provide proactive, strategic HR partnership and consultation to assigned departments. By understanding the departmental environment, goals and objectives, the HRBP will help strategize and deliver solutions through effective human resources management.
The HRBP is responsible for advising staff and faculty at all levels on HR matters in the areas of staffing, employee relations, manager coaching and consultation, and performance management. They serve as a collaborative business partner in the delivery of human resources services; interprets collective bargaining agreements, laws and regulations, and advises management and supervisors on employment matters.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for providing comprehensive HR assistance to designated areas within the academic affairs division, offering guidance and implementing HR programs and services to advance organizational objectives.
Help define, build, and implement value-added HR strategies and solutions.
Leads routine meetings with supervisors, department chairs, and leadership in assigned divisions/departments to update on departmental issues, offer guidance on performance and behavior management, provide policy interpretations, and gather input on HR or employment matters.
Act as an internal partner to leaders and staff by providing guidance on a range of organizational and change issues.
Partner with other members of the HR team to deliver customized programs and services to client areas which address organizational development, performance management, compensation, employee relations and staffing.
Provide employee relations expertise, ensure compliance to policies and procedures, in addition to state and federal laws.
Investigate employee relations issues and recommend appropriate action.
Assist managers and employees in recognizing and resolving performance issues. Offer coaching and guidance to managers regarding corrective actions.
Interpret policies, providing guidance to leaders and staff concerning work related issues.
Identify key trends and collaborate with other members of the HR team to provide recommendations and solutions.
Conduct exit interviews, analyze data and make recommendations to the management team for continuous improvement.
May participate on various HR committees or college-wide programs, projects or teams.
Work with attorneys and leadership on employment law and immigration issues.
Attend MCAD, EEOC, and Unemployment Hearings as needed.
Consistently role model ethical decision-making, cultural competency, responsible management, & courageous leadership through all actions & communications.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS required.
PHR/SPHR preferred.
3-5 years professional Human Resources experience required, with specialized expertise/skills in one or more HR disciplines.
Demonstrated competence in aligning HR initiatives with organizational goals.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Demonstrated effective communication skills to provide resolution to complex and highly sensitive employee relations issues.
Experience leading multiple, concurrent, high-priority employee relations activities with a focus on timely and consistent execution.
Exceptional analytical, reporting, and presentation skills are required; must be able to confidently make recommendations to senior leaders for improved employee relations and business results based on data, findings, and feedback from employees.
Knowledge of employment laws and practices.
Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
Sound judgment, ability to handle sensitive confidential information.
Ability to work closely and collaboratively with all levels of management.
Culturally competent individual with experience working collaboratively in a very diverse, multi-cultural environment.
Diplomatic, influential, and possesses calm, professional demeanor at all times.
Comfortable with a consultative approach to delivering HR services.
