The Nurse Manager (NM) is the designated first-line supervisory authority and is responsible and accountable for the 24/7 operation of their assigned units and provides coverage for other NMs as needed. The NM is responsible and accountable for the direction and supervision of specific orientation, training, development of staff, and evaluation of individual staff performance. They function as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor providing leadership to the team. They enhance care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team to remove barriers and implement new evidence-based cutting-edge programs/processes.
The NM engages in professional organizations to enhance leadership and career growth. They adhere to ethical principles in decision-making, fostering accountability at personal, organizational, and staff levels. They equip staff with tools for culturally competent care and promotes a culture of accountability for high-quality, cost-effective outcomes. They cultivate alliances across the care continuum, building trust through active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.
The NM contributes to the development of care delivery models and environmental design, ensuring evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. Ensures compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. Aligns nursing/clinical objectives with organizational strategic outcomes, participating in strategy planning and execution. They promote an inclusive workplace valuing diversity to achieve the organizations vision and mission.
The NM will analyze schedules and be creative with staffing to minimize overtime (OT) usage and be fiscally responsible. He/she will incorporate the staff and empower them to have a say in their work environment, incorporate them into the group process of decision-making. Attends all necessary meetings associated with nursing, in general, and Primary Care, such as Performance Excellence Council (PEC), to facilitate analyzing processes in the group forum.
Manages the overall environment; will enter work orders for any damaged walls, tiles, etc.; will collaborate with Environmental Management Service (EMS) to promote a hygienic care environment; etc. Completes annual performance appraisals and proficiencies in a timely manner and effectively maintains all files, assuring competency and safe practice for assigned staff. Performs human resource (HR) functions including performance-based interviewing for selection of staff, in a fair, unbiased manner to create a diverse environment and workforce. Promptly provides feedback to clinic staff on their performance- for accolades and for areas of improvement. Submits all necessary documentation and data to ACNS, Human Resources (HR), committees, Executive offices, etc., prior to the deadline. Implements action plans to assure performance measures are met to improve organizational performance.
