A speech and language therapist is required to work within a multi-disciplinary team at St Nicholas School, Purley, CR8 4DS. We are an oversubscribed, Local Authority maintained primary special school for over 200 fantastic pupils with a variety of learning needs.
This post is suitable for an experienced or newly qualified Speech and Language Therapist looking to gain more experience working with primary aged children with a variety of learning difficulties including autism.
Main Duties will include:
• Working with children with moderate to severe learning disabilities/complex needs which may include ASD, SEMH, Down Syndrome and ADHD.
• Assessment of pupils both informally and formally, to reach an understanding of the students’ needs and set goals accordingly.

About the Team
Our large and friendly team of Speech & Language Therapists (SLTs) and Speech & Language Therapy Assistants work across mainstream and special schools in Surrey. We are part of Surrey's local SEND offer, working collaboratively with the Inclusion and Additional Needs Team and other areas like Educational Psychology and Specialist Teaching. Our tiered model supports universal, targeted and specialist intervention for children, families and the school workforce; making sure we deliver the right support at the right time to children and young people, with and without EHCPs.

About the Role
The role of a Speech and Language Therapist is varied and no two days will be the same, however you can expect to be involved with the following:

Clinical decision making in conjunction with school staff and evidence-based practice, around the level of support needed to achieve the best possible outcome for the CYP on your defined caseload
Working with Assistants, setting targets for the CYP you are jointly supporting and monitoring the delivery and outcomes of their work
Assessment, advice and intervention for CYP with a range of SLCN within your caseload
Regular time for case-note writing (in line with HCPC standards)
Regular partnership working, including prioritisation and caseload management e.g., autonomy around balancing clinical and non-clinical duties

This role has a starting salary of £40,929 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week.

Residents may be elderly and frail, experience a learning disability, physical or sensory impairment, or have mental ill health. This diverse role will facilitate your development and equip you with a large range of skills to enable you to undertake frontline holistic occupational therapy practice within a social care setting. You will have the opportunity to put into practice assessments such as moving and handling risk assessments and intervention, with the aim of supporting and empowering our residents to live meaningful lives within the community. Joining us, you will work closely with your team members, as well as with other organisations and agencies to provide an integrated service to support vulnerable adults and their carers in a community-based setting. This community-based role requires you to visit clients in their homes, as well as other settings such as residential care and nursing homes. Shortlisting Criteria To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

• Professional qualification in Occupational Therapy and current registration with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Experience of working within a social care, health, or community focused multi-disciplinary setting.
• Ability to complete person centred and proportionate OT assessments.
• Familiarity with moving and handling equipment such as hoists and stand aids.
• Knowledge of medical conditions and the likely impact on the individual, carer, and family
• Knowledge of current legislation, including the Care Act and the Mental Capacity Act and its application to practice in a social care setting
• Post-qualification professional experience would also be required and experience of providing professional supervision would be beneficial (support and training to further these skills will be provided).
