Structure of Apprentice program

As an apprentice you will be employed by London Children’s Practice, working towards a Masters (2years) qualification in Occupational Therapy. LCP will be partnering with Coventry University to complete these degrees.

You will be employed full time and are required to attend 20days of university days per year, along with completing additional study to contribute to your learning. You will be engaged in your role as an apprentice for core hours of 7.5hours per day with study time provided. During school holidays you will have additional study time for assignments and study.

Throughout this time, you will be paid your salary and be entitled to annual leave, sick leave, NI, and pension. Additionally, you will attend training alongside qualified therapist and receive on the ground learning each and everyday which you would typically only have within placements.

Throughout your degree, you will attend 3 placements within other OT settings external to LCP facilitated by the university.

Job responsibilities:

Maintenance of high quality patient centred care
Shared responsibility for the day to day management of the service and participation in strategic planning
Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
Active participation in continuing medical education

Qualifications:

Entry on the Specialist Register in Geriatrics OR Acute Medicine OR Neurology (or entry expected within 6 months from the date of interview)
MRCP or equivalent
Higher Degree
CCT in Stroke Medicine

Experience and skills:

Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in any parent Speciality as above
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the management of acute medical emergencies
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients
Special interest that complements the existing consultants
Knowledge/Skills of Artificial Intelligence and use of advanced brain imaging in Stroke Medicine
Ability to work well with colleagues and within a team
Ability to motivate and develop the multi-disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives

Responsibilities:
 Deliver prescribed care to a defined group within an agreed framework.
 Assess, plan and deliver, with the patient and their carer/family, nursing care which takes account of patient choice and wishes and acting as the patients named nurse
 Accurately observe and engage with patients in order to assess their need and evaluate their progress
 Monitor and review Nursing Care plans
 Evaluate and respond to changes in patient condition and needs
 Deal proactively and effectively with suggestions and complaints from patients and their families/ carers
 Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the Multi-Disciplinary team
 Participate in regular clinical and non-clinical meetings and attend other meetings as requested
 Prioritise nursing duties and delegate appropriately and effectively within the shift co-ordination
 Framework, working as nurse in charge as required, ensuring as far as reasonable practicable a safe environment
 Maintain a continued level of personal professional development in accordance to preceptorship and revalidation
 Participate in clinical supervision and reflective practice monthly
 Work in accordance with safeguarding adult and children policies and requirements
 Ensure the requirements of the Mental Health, Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Standards are met
 Adhere to Medicines Management policies at all times
